Is there a way to open Excel files from Opera on a Windows PC ?
I've tried the legacy "Documents" extension (latest revision was 2014!), but it doesn't seem to work in current Opera versions.

@teligence So you have download some Excel files using Opera and wants to open them? If so, you need to use Excel or a similar software.

@leocg Not quite - I have Excel files on my laptop, but would like to create a bookmark with a local link e.g. "file:///c:..."), but while I can use Opera with that format to drill down to the appropriate subfolder, when I click on a selected file it only prompts me to download it - not open it.

Maybe there's another extension or maybe a plugin available that I haven't found yet???

You would need an extension that takes over the handling of the application/vnd.ms-excel mime type and the xls and xlsx extensions where it passes that file URL (perhaps converting to a Windows file path if Excel can't handle file URLs) to Excel in some way (by using a NativeMessaging handler for example).

I don't know of any extensions that do that. However, if you just want to view the xls files in something, one of these extensions might help.

Of course, it might just be easier to create a shortcut in Windows to the folder and launch the files directly instead of trying to use Opera as a file explorer.

@teligence Kinda expected since Opera can't open those type of files.
