I really hope that the speed dial icon next to the address bar is restored, it was a small but very convenient feature that I used many times a day. Pleeeease retore this Opera people.

I feel the same way. The short term work around is to right click on any tab. Select "open new tab."

Click on the three dots at the bottom of the sidebar which is Sidebar Settings. You'll find the speed dial option under Opera Tools - just check the box.

well... that just opens a new Speed Dial page. It doesn't replace the currently open page.

Yeah. It's just one of those many small helpful details that no one else seems to be doing that puts Opera a cut above. I really believe Opera should sqeeze it back in as I can't see it taking up space. It's one of those little big things that would not be initially apparent.

@kman198 I reported it as a bug. Hopefully they will fix it as soon as possible.

@missspeeddial It's not a bug, the speed dial button was removed. If they will accept or not the requests to return the button, only time will tell.

It's time saver - I want to be able to close the current page and go to the speed dial at the same time so I can pick something else from it.. or just type an URL.
Now?
I have to close the tab and then click on "plus" button - so it's one unnecessary extra click. Whyy opera, whyyy.

You were supposed to be the chosen one!Opera has a low market share on desktop browsers. Some genius at management decided that they must be "different".
Not realising that browsers have been incrementally improved and perfected over time, like a Porsche 911 — and that today's Chrome/Firefox/Edge visuals and features are what most users want.

@leocg Leo, what I don't understand is why was the Speed Dial button removed?
It wasn't hurting anyone or causing any problem to anyone, so why remove it?
It just seems a pointless thing to do, and has really pissed off a considerable number of people.

@greenpalmer-0 like...why would anyone make a browser with no homepage functionality?? I can open a new tab but I have to click again to close an old one? A Speed Dial/Home Button does both of those things in one click. One click people. Simple. SMDH

I agree with you, the missing Speed Dial icon is the first thing I've noticed when I've installed Opera One.
It would be better to put it back next to the refresh button.
However you can set a keyboard shortcut that fixes the problem, while we hopefully wait for an update.
I've set Alt+A to open the Speed Dial/Home page in shortcuts settings, and it's very useful and comfortable, cause it allows you to switch the current page to "Speed Dials/Home" page without the need to open a new tab/use the side bar.

Yes. And there are a few things in that section of the page that don't need to be there. For example, I don't use VPN. Let me turn that off. Also, the quick setup button could go all the way to the right where it used to be and seemed natural.

@leocg But can I remove the VPN button from the space to the left of the search bar?

@modemjunkie Disabling it in settings should also remove the icon in address bar.

Well, I had a breakthrough and figured it out. When you start, Opera, you go to your start page. Pin that tab and it shrinks and becomes effectively a start page button.
