Totally agree with you. Seems strange to remove a very useful feature. -

@darkwind23 Other Opera desktop browsers also don't have the "home" button, so maybe Opera wanted Opera One to also be like that? Maybe the statistics show that the button usage was low? Maybe they just didn't want a home button in the new UI?

@greenpalmer-0 SAme problem. Also X on the tab not shown until you use the mouse. I can't use Opera with my Win10 tablet without any pointer device.

What happened to this button - is there a logical reason why it isn't included in the latest build?

Also in the entire changelog for Opera 100 there is no mention of removing the Start Page button, so how come it has been done?

But shouldn't need to use an extension - the Start Page button shouldn't have been removed in the first place!

Agree. But easier in the short run than migrating to another browser.I'll wait and see if they fix it, a little bit.
The most recent update fixed a bunch of bugs, so it's not a lost cause. -

@swmalinga this is just not an acceptable work-around. They need to bring back the speed dial button

I also would like this icon back. So much so I just spent 2 hours trying to find a way to get it back. Not Happy. I am tired of getting things I use taken away and stuff I don't want shoved down my throat.

I missed the start-page button immediately: I use it a lot, as others do. I think Opera One is a combination of hideous and horrible, and I have downgraded and turned off auto update.

I found a little workaround:
Just put the new tab page (chrome://startpageshared) on your bookmarks bar and there you go!
You may also remove the label if you like. -

Nice one. But it requires the Bookmarks bar to always be open for a one-click functionality.
Before, the icon was always available besides address bar. Even if Bookmarks bar closed.

Exactly, way too buried, easer to just key in or use the extension given above.
