@john2003cpht There should be a standard Xwindows argument for that, similar to the --geometry:mmmxnnn thst can identify a starting window size. I'll have to see if zi can look it up.

Works here for me, but used the reverse:
opera --start-maximized %U
@John2003cpht .... you might have misspelled it or modified the rwong shortcut - what did you modify?

You never answered the question, "what" are you modifying (for the modified startup command).
Also, have you tried from a command line?
I just did and works fine. (%U not required for test)opera --start-maximized
if it's still not maximizing, then you might have some strange anomaly with whatever D.E. you're using.
I'm using Tumbleweed with KDE Plasma. -

I'll try again:
Also, have you tried running it from a command line?
Another question:
What desktop environment are you using?

I use the default cinnamon desktop and I have tried launching from the terminal with the same result everytime. Thank you all for looking into this.

@john2003cpht That depends on the window manager, which if I'm not mistaken was named muffin. Since I'm using Cinnamon too (altough an older version, bc anything since 5.4.0 is not what I signed up for), I'm guessing there's something in your current version of muffin that prevents Opera from being maximized every time you start it. I downgraded Cinnamon to 5.2.7 (I'm using Arch, btw) and with it - muffin which is now version 5.2.1. And Opera is maximized every time I start it. You can try downgrading muffin (if you know how) to an older version of better yet - to the same version 5.2.1 I'm using.

This seems to be a common issue on Mint / Cinnamon d.m.
Just do a google search for
opera maximize cinnamon desktop
... and you'll see posts going back to 2019. Making changes to the startup icon isn't consistent - there are a couple other shortcuts to try. Some say put a shortcut on the desktop and change it.
Quite a few also change this in Opera:
" In Opera go Menu > Settings.
In the "On startup" section select
"Retain tabs from previous session" (optionally select "Display the start page first" option if you want that). " -
