@nikopol1821 Not that difficult to think of a reason for them to not allow it.

@leocg what is the reason then not allowing users to customise the browser in a useful way? i thought the devs want me to use their product why they make it so hard to use then? surprisingly useless answer for a mod btw

@nikopol1821 Probably the same why they don't allow you to set up a custom search engine as the default one.

@leocg probably, so you dont know, okay. opera seem to have a lot of excuses for having useless functions which some you cant even disable and for not having functions that many consider standard for a browser, weird way for devs who want people to use their product but maybe thats just me.

@nikopol1821 As an user, I can only make speculations about the reasons for Opera not allowing those things.
Officially, custom search engines stopped being allowed for security reasons, to avoid them being hijacked by malware. Searches are also the main source of revenue of a browser.

@nikopol1821 You can't set custom search engines as standard, but you can enable them, generally, and create a shortcut for the address bar like "e" for Ecosia for example.
Of course, it's not that convenient to type an "e" or whatever before your search item, but that's the way it is.
You can also set your custom search engine as your "home page".
For me personally, it's all and well to have DuckDuckGo in the selection, offered by Opera. I'd probably use Ecosia as well. Unfortunately it's not quite as straightforward to set Startpage as a custom engine or Brave, if you like. -

Great product! As a dedicated Chrome user, I can now say that it's better; except it can never be my main browser. Why I hear you cry! Because it does not support Roboform, it's a simple as that. And no, before you say, I don't work for Roboform.

I don't like to change the default browser without asking permission. Because, i already set for my preferance so you should not change the automatically without my permission. I think it's not legal.

Just installed opera-developer from the aur today, and I can say that there is only three reasons I cannot switch from my current browser. These three things are: No tab cycle mouse gesture(I use click upward for this), secondly no way to hide the url bar, and thirdly no way to hide tabs. I currently use vivaldi and I'm able to hide everything I don't need and I'm able to configure everything else through mouse gestures. I hope these features can be added to opera.

What are you doing Opera?
You seem to be, at the moment, the one browser that has “ads” on YouTube, stating all it’s great features etc. Now I ask you, is this a case of many things with “ads” on YouTube etc, blowing a trumpet but when it comes down to the niting gritty, it’s got gremlins and not all that great.
Try to import passwords (csv)!
Try syncing!
Try saving login details!
And shall we forget using it on our iPhones!?!I’ve been using Brave for ages and in reality, unless Opera can really sort these things out, I truly can’t see any reason to switch which is a pity.
Opera, get your act together!

I've been attending opera performances for years, but lately, I've noticed something different. Modern productions seem to be moving away from the traditional elements that made classic opera so mesmerizing. From innovative set designs to unconventional casting choices, I wonder if we're sacrificing the essence of opera for a more contemporary appeal. Has anyone else felt this shift? Do you think opera is evolving for the better, or are we losing the timeless beauty of the art form? Would love to hear your thoughts!

As a loyal user of opera for 25 years the fact that I am forced now to upgrade to an AI system leads me feeling resentful, and has forced me to switch over to Firefox and uninstall Opera from my PC (some here may not yet realize that it is impossible not only to resist an upgrade, but efforts to prevent an upgrade by deleting the Opera upgrade's modules in the installed folder repeatedly fail and automatically re upgrades you to the AI browser. Even so far as blocking those modules with Komodo firewall blocking rules does not work. (BTW, the Android Opera browser does not Force the update to the new operating system).
The jury may still be out on whether an AI civilization is safe for humanity as a whole, but I for one steadfastly remain on the cautious side of that existential issue.
Moreover as one who prioritizers his privacy in a world where it is rapidly evaporating, and also being forcibly stripped in from us in both public and private places, the consumption of my personal life details, activities and interests by a machine designed to learn, aggregate and integrate all manner of information into a collective sphere in order to make itself an perfectly informed entity, is unacceptable to me. And you will not easily convince me that somehow your OS does, or will remain, sandboxed from the rest of the internet. "Oops, sorry we had a data breach and are doing everything we can to restore our integrity".
I demand of Opera developers and management that they consult with their conscience and thereby facilitate the restoration of one's privacy (at least to a degree) by avoiding assimilation with "The Borg" by using Opera's browser

@leocg thank you Leo.
So you're saying I'm misunderstanding or confusing the Android app (in which I know I can choose to use Aria and I don't) and can also now update and choose the fully ai-based Android app, which I don't want).
I thought that the PC version was also fully AI based already, (like the new Android app), which I do not want.!
If the PC version is not fully ai-based now, it probably will be soon. That keeps my issue relevant because I can't stop opera on PC from automatically downloading and installing the latest version currently, unless something changes, when the new version of opera ai-based comes out, I'll have to wind up abandoning uninstalling opera once again.
Have I got that right

@leocg thanks again, the root of the problem was someone mentioning somewhere a week ago that the Opera browser had been totally redesigned from scratch as an AI system (rather than just a ordinary human designed program with an AI option).
Thanks for clearing that up although I do wish the PC opera would with regain the capacity to not be updated.
Cheers
