General Opera One Feedback Topic

Hello, this post is directed at any staff at Opera who will be able to take my points into account and act upon them, as the "Other" box's character limit on the feedback prompt it gave me was too short for everything I wanted to say. First off, the Opera loading animation and start up sound that's only supposed to play the first time you load up kept appearing, which was very annoying as I like to quickly open my browser to search something, then close it again once I'm done. The loud start up sound blasting in my ears also was not pleasant. So I Googled a solution to this, and firstly people were saying that it could be turned off in flags, however this did not work for me, another solution suggested was to delete "opera_gx_splash.exe" in the installation files. This worked, but was a bit tedious and didn't cause for a terrific first impression of the browser, as well as supposedly I will have to keep deleting this file after every Opera update. On top of that, ad block doesn't work as well as other extensions on Chrome (misses a few ads, and can't right click and manually add it to the adblock either unlike in the extension I used). Talking about extensions, the "Opera addons" webpage has a bit of an outdated design and not being the most user friendly, as well as not showing all the extensions that are in the Chrome web store, which Opera doesn't make it too convenient to get to. In addition, webpages sometimes get stuck and won't let me scroll for a few seconds. Furthermore, I don't like how the close button isn't fully top right because to close my programs I usually just flick my mouse top right and click, now I have to purposefully move to the close button which takes more effort and is slower, mild nuisance. Same goes for tabs, can't drag them around if you click at the very top of the screen, have to click in the middle of the tab. Dragging tabs to pop them out into a different window also feels clunky, and won't fullscreen if you drag them to the top of the screen unlike in Chrome. Not being able to right click an image and search with Google is also a feature I use often which is helpful for finding image sources, not sure why this isn't in Opera as most other browsers besides just Chrome also have this feature... It's also a shame bookmarks and history don't transfer over to chrome on my phone, but I understand why that would be the case. I could always download Opera on my phone, however I don't browse on my phone too often so that would be more effort than it's worth to transfer everything over there as well. Apart from that, I do like a few of the features you have vs other browsers, just not quite as reliable and sturdy as Chrome feels. If you fix these problems I've brought up, by either changing how it currently works or adding a setting to be able to change it at least, I will switch back to Opera. However for now, I will be turning back to good ol' Chrome! Thanks for reading, I hope you can act upon these matters.

OperaDeveloper does not start, after the last update. No old solution, like taking over the rights to the profile folder; no reinstallation; no installation on another partition... And the truth? to waste time with configurations, with versions as unstable as the "stable" one, I prefer to play with Vivaldi. Although I'll stick with Firefox.
With Opera stable, when it's not for one, it's for another... Now they don't download applications from the Chrome Webstore.
Some pages do not show embedded pdf. However other chromiun and non-chromiun browsers do. Even the Japanese Sleipnir, a true machine, does not have as many bugs as Opera.
In a couple of years, I'll be back... and I'll be millions.
For now keep experimenting, fixing something and messing up twice as much.
Cheers!!!
I'm still with the faithful and safe Firefox and Vivaldi to play with. -

I would like to know why with the last update all tabs are almost impossible to control. I have many tabs opened on the top because I need them for reference, after the new update the tabs are difficult to manage , open keep ordered. They are too much near each other like a sandwich!
Also the "AI" suggestion is rather useless and make things complicated , while before this browser was just the best.
more than update looks like a personal stylization and is not functional
Semplicity and usability should be a must!
Also the "My Flow" before has a nice animation telling you when clicking was "doing" something , while now is just a dead button.
very bad, if continue like this will change the browser, after many years now it is unusable almost. The new Tabs management absolutely sucks sorry.

Just Stop. You still don't have a "recovery previous windows" button like moz'ila so Stop This. Everytime I have to re do everything and remember my tabs again for some update I didn't ask. Do better.

I have been using Opera for as long as I can remember (I remember Opera with a banner ad). Unfortunately, recent changes in this browser forced me to change browsers (hopefully temporarily). I'm not mentioning all the fantastic functionalities that I often used. Releasing a product in a stable version that causes major problems for many people is terrible and frivolous.
My objective problems with the new interface:
- The icons in the sidebar look terrible, the background on the dark theme is discouraging
- Close button, minimize button, etc. they are rounded and therefore inactive in the very corner of the screen. I have to aim to close the browser
- For a long time (stable version!!) the scroll button on tabs did not work
- For a long period (stable version!!) the space above the tab was inactive. The option in the menu did not work. Actually, it probably still doesn't work, the advantage is that you don't have to aim at the tabs.
- Rounding everything and the spacing associated with it.
- Moving tabs between screens is a pain! Every other browser does it smoothly and quickly. Here you have to wait and it won't go where you want. Additionally, it opens new windows...
- The new tab button is too small - you have to aim.
- Splashscreen? I think he disappeared?
Therefore:
- Will it be possible to change any interface element?
- Is there a roadmap for the upcoming functionalities in Opera?
- The icons in the sidebar look terrible, the background on the dark theme is discouraging

Exactly.
I don't see much advantages from this 'modular' design. I see the opposite - habitual daily experience is spoiled, the things that worked fine are harder to use now.@mcedro said in General Opera One Feedback Topic:

Yes, and not only between screens. Check the issues I noticed regarding the tabs moving.

Every single update opera squishes my tabs into an unreadable and unclickable mess.. I have to go to chrome//flags and enable tab Scrolling and relaunch. but now with this Opera One update Tab Scrolling doesn't even work! Why? Why do you insist on making my browsing experience painful. I just want to be able to read and click on the tabs i want.

Good morning,
I recently received the update to version 102.0.4880.56 of Opera One which has introduced many, MANY issues that make using the browser a challenge, to put it lightly. Let's start off with system specs:
- Windows 10 Pro 22H2 64-bit
- Intel Core i9-10900K
- 32 GB RAM
Post update, where all of the Speed Dial bookmarks became rounded (I don't think it was the version I have now and that some may not have automatically installed since then), performance of Opera One has become miserable. Let's list a few issues:
- When closing the last tab of a window, the window no longer closes and it continues to open a new tab.
- When watching a video, the framerate is massively below even 30 FPS unless the window is made smaller (or full screen mode is activated).
- The spacing on right click menus is atrocious.
These are just a few examples that I have experienced thus far, besides the fact that performance is generally much slower when loading any pages, including just the Speed Dial itself, not to mention that when popping out a tab, sometimes the entire browser will crash (that was present before this update). I pray that a hot fix (or rollback) is in process, because if these issues aren't fixed, I might have to switch web browsers just to be able to have a standard level of performance again.
Additional Notes: I fresh reinstalled Opera One (unintentionally, which was frustrating, but at least I could test). Issues still present with no extensions. Lucid Mode never active (performance has never been good with it active).

@andrew84 It would be nice to have a menu option to merge all instances of Opera into one instance.

@horkol This is a complete abomination. They really decided to kill Opera, or the very best internet browser.

In edge I was quickly able to get to the search bar with F4, however it doesn't let me on Opera.
Also you know how when you sign into something for the first time, it asks to save the password. Sometimes, it doesn't register the correct username on some websites and on edge this was easily fixable by editing right there and then when it asked if you wanted to save it. However, on here it just says save password or no, without giving you the option to edit it without going to the password manager in settings.
Finally, the workspaces feature is useful, but the profiles on edge were way better. For example, I have personal and school profiles on edge. On the personal profile it had my school email and bookmarks and passwords and the personal profile was for home. On Opera though, the workspaces have the same bookmarks and the same settings and everything. Workspaces are good, however I have to keep on using edge for my school account and it is annoying.
Please fix these.

I've been using Opera for years. I chose this over chrome/firefox because of the super useful features like auto adblocker, copy option on text selecting and whatsapp/messenger on the side bar. But now I am seriously considering moving away from my long beloved browser.
Every time there is an update since version 100, I am terrified of what basic feature they would be removing now in order to appear more cool!!! First they disabled the feature of scrolling pages by clicking and dragging on the edge of the screen. You have to put the cursor at a small distance away from the edge to scroll. Then somehow they brought it back after a few days. But now with the latest update today, when I drag my mouse to scroll a page from the edge of the screen, as soon as I lift the click the mouse, the window splits in half on the right side. To make things worse, when I click on the button between minimize and close window (where the "make full screen" button should be), the window splits again, but this time on the top half of the pc screen.🥲
And now when I take my mouse to the top edge of the screen to select a tab, it just doesn't select it!!!!!! Again, you'd have to bring the cursor a bit down to select the tab.
On a side note, how do I know that the mighty Opera has launched another of it's revolutionary updates? Being a heavy Opera user, I normally pin it on my taskbar and start menu. With each update, the pins disappear and I have to re-pin them every time. In some cases, it also removes my login from the Opera profile. Gives you a brand new browser, how epic!!!
Seriously speaking, it appears that Opera is on a quest of figuring out innovative ways of annoying its users.

The way that Bookmarking open tabs is done, is horrible.
Please come up with a much easier way to bookmark all open tabs in a window.
They are supposed to be Bookmarks, not SpeddDial groups.
Saving tabs as Speed Dial groups are not conducive to saving bookmarks.
When all tabs in a window get saved as items in a Speed Dial group, the group has no name. If you have multiple windows open with multiple tabs, you wind up with several un-named Speed Dial collections. This is not helpful.
Renaming a Speed Dial collection is slow.
The only way to get the collections from Speed Dial to Bookmarks is to open the bookmark bar and click-drag the collection down to bookmarks. Crossing any nested set of bookmarks that the mouse pointer usually results in the nested collection popping open, and the whole sidebar display accordions out, making dragging prone to errors.
When you have to repeat this 5 or 6 times, it is quite a pain.

That's my perception. Videos from several pages stop playing at a particular point. I can reload the page, same story, go to another browser, all ok, playback flawlessly. And it became rather sssssslow, Sometimes I am not sure if I am connected. Test another browser, it flies. Is it just my perception? I am actually considering downgrading Opera to before the AImnation..

In our Linux environment, it's easy to install a "pre-opera one" version.
It's my understanding this is mostly a user to user forum, but there are active admins out here. I doubt seriously Devs are watching (retired Dev here, and I wouldn't be out here )
For me, the VPN icon in the URL bar (address line) is in plain sight, and I can see it switch on and off.
Didn't sell it to Google.
"ugly dark mode"?? disable it.
"aria cr@p"?? disable it.
"just stay with what you were good at".
Not gonna happen ... too much of an investment at this stage to revert back, just because a few folks want the previous generation Opera. Just download pre-One version (and good luck with future security fixes and enhancements )I've had, pretty much, no issues with Opera One. Maybe it's my runtime environment, or my specific usage of Opera (I run four different browsers, each with a specific use case).

hi thank you for your prompt answer, honestly!
so step by step:
"In our Linux environment, it's easy to install a "pre-opera one" version."
Dont understand, what do you mean?"user to user forum" / I doubt seriously Devs are watching (retired Dev here
.. so it´s a one-way thing. bad for users.
thats what the development looks like for me."For me, the VPN icon in the URL bar (address line) is in plain site, and I can see it switch on and off."
here definitely not. gone. no clue why."ugly dark mode"?? disable it.
"aria cr@p"?? disable it.
you know, thats the thing, then this big o, when starting, the sound, then dark mode (should never! be standard), aria is simply bad, so until not good should be not promoted as a working AI chat, but in beta mode or so (or was it?). can´t compare to any other I know.
then by the way, the reason for my post was originally that always my mouse moves to the right side of the screen, opera reduces to half screen size and shows me all other open windows. ) I hate that, a thousand little things, you see?
a company that uses a dark mode as standard also doesnt have my trust, is not my crowd anymore . i think you should work more neutral. to me opera has a feature overload. also the tabs
:((( I forgot that.I cant close a tab with my tablet (ms surface). simply cant. just with mouse. but i use my tablet not to have to use a mouse.
its crap, sorry. better do something simple fast and brilliant (also not fast anymore), chrome much faster on my ms surface with win 11 and so son and so on.
and if the devs dont visit this forum - that says it all.
developing stuff in their bubble?no. I think it´s time for a great crowd developed browser. anyways, thats the future in my eyes.
ok, thanks for your time! the disable disable strategy is not really a solution. as you see, theres more about it.

The latest Opera One(version : 103.0.4928.34) seems excellent: I particularly love the workspaces in the left vertical toolbar.
I have temporarily stopped using my previous browsers, until I have got a deeper experience on it.
But Opera misses a crucial feature: the possibility to backup its entire configuration including the workspaces.
In case of crash or other problem, we Must have the possibility to import a backup in order to avoid to re-create the workspaces.
Without this feature, Opera is useless, because such a workload would be too high !
