Start page high CPU usage

Hi. I'm new here. Started using Opera a few months ago, and I like it, having used Firefox for many years.
I noticed today that the mac Activity Monitor was showing a "Opera Helper Renderer" process using 70-80% CPU. If I switched to a different tab, one without the start page showing, it would drop to normal, about 10% on "User" cpu. Clicked the tab with the start page, bam - the renderer process was back to 75%. Visible start page - high cpu, no visible start page - normal cpu.
I tried different settings for the start page, background picture etc, nothing seemed to make a difference. Never seen it before. Then, after maybe an hour, the problem quite gradually became less pronounced, until it was gone completely. Very strange.
I googled around and didn't find much. I found one thread here from 2020, with one single post describing something similar, but it had been closed.
I'll just hope it's gone forever, but if it comes back, I can't use Opera anymore because it really made a big bump in the cpu graph.
Any ideas what this might be?
BTW, is there a way to create an automatic signature here?

@benjenssen You can add a signature in your profile.
I've looked, but I can't find anything called 'signature' in the profile pages. Could you perhaps point me in the right direction?
