@ajelandrop Same thing here. I havent installed anything new on my PC and yet it crashes. Have you found a solution?

@ajelandrop Me Too! I don't upgrade anything, all my components are the same. Just updated the browser to newer version. Now I'm forced to use Edge to discussing with my group. If it still ongoing for a week, I'll switch to Edge due to its already installed in my pc and cannot be uninstalled. Plus, my pc is low spec and can slowed down if I'm using any other browser. I hope they fix it fast

I was organizing images on microsoft's OneDrive and then I clicked to send an audio via whatsapp, which did not record the audio and crashed the entire opera, I lost all the open tabs that were saved and I can't access them back, I lost everything and even pressing the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+T to return the last closed tabs it does not return the tabs that crashed
The amount of open and saved tabs that were not running in my browser was extreme, as per the attached image, I lost all the tabs and I don't remember all of themCan you recreate this bug?
Yes, just click on send an audio via whatsapp web which is in the left corner of the browser and it crashes everything and closes -

@ajelandrop also have the same problem after updating Opera, I tried couple of things to find the problem.
-
the problem is not exclusive to whatsapp.
I tried sending voice messages on facebook messenger and Telegram. both also don't work. -
it is exclusive to the messengers on the side panel.
if you try to send a voice message from a tab that has Whatsapp web for example, it won't crash.
The problem has not been solved yet, I hope that opera will release an update to fix these crashes ASAP. for now I try to use my Messengers in tabs.

@momentous oh thank you! Weird because I'm using Telegram on the sidebar but it works fine. Now I'm forced to use Edge. So weird because need to use whatsapp on the right sidebar. Still waiting for Opera to fix this.

same thing here: Opera crashes and restarts when I click the mic button on WhatsApp or Telegram on the side panel.
Using the latest Opera (98.0.4759.15) on macOS 10.15.7.
Pls fix!

I encountered the same issues on my Windows 10. Then I downgraded my opera browser to an earlier version and Opera stops crashing whenever i try to record a voice note with Whatsapp running from the sidebar.
You can download the previous version of Opera browser from https://get.opera.com/ftp/pub/opera/desktop/
The more recent version that I tried which still works is 97.0.4719.63. Not sure if some of the later versions after 97.0.4719.63 also works as I didn't try yet.
But you will get Opera trying to update to the latest version every now and then. So you need to go to Task Scheduler (type in the windows search bar "Task Scheduler") and look for Opera Scheduled Assistant Autoupdate, right click it and click on "Disable" .
This might not disable it permanently so may need to read up on how to prevent it from updating again from time time. Maybe some of the Pros can elaborate how to prevent the auto-updating from running in Task Scheduler. -

@bagadefente The same thing happens on discord actually. I just tested my mic on a random website on opera gx so it does not seem to be everything using your mic that is effected.

I have a screenshot of the message that shows when i crash trying to unmute on discord. Do you guys get the same message? If so our similar problems probably have a similar cause

@petrusem nope. Seeing as we all have the same error though it is probably the same underlying issue

Same here, opera was running perfect until I wanted to send an audio last week and it crashed. Sometimes it crashes and turn off all my opera and chrome extensions and I have to turn them on again one by one.

@ajelandrop Same thing here. With Opera, Opera GX, and Opera One. Clicking on the WhatsApp MIC button crashes the browser and reinitializes it. I tried everything, uninstalled all operas, and cleared the Windows registry, and every folder with opera data to no avail. This behavior continues!
It does not happen with Chrome and Firefox. I decided to switch to Vivaldi and so far, everything is OK, a sidebar with similar features to Opera. A pity, I like Opera GX style a lot. Any ideas? -

Reading the English version of Opera forum, and poking around, I ended up finding a solution to have both Operas working, I mean Opera Classic and Opera GX. In both, the voice recording in WhatsApp is working without problems (no browser crashing!), but it is necessary to use 2 old versions. Download them from the addresses in the ftp repository and disable the update!!! That's the idea!
For Opera Classic (classic version)
Link to Opera Classic version 97.0.4719.63 of 5 Apr 2023
https://get.opera.com/ftp/pub/opera/desktop/choose the operating system "win" and several options will appear, download
Opera_97.0.4719.63_Setup_x64.exeThen, after downloading the Opera Classic, install it unchecking options
- make it the default browser
- start with the PC.
After installing, as soon as the browser opens, close it quickly to prevent it from trying to update the version! This is fundamental!
After installation then, look for the Opera Classic shortcut on your desktop, right-click and choose Properties, select Shortcut tab and in the "Target location" part write:
"-disable-update" after βlaunch.exeβ. So, the destination link will no be: C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera\launcher.exe -disable-updateClick apply and your ready to go! Open Opera Classic and it will not update!!! It will give an error while it attempts to update, but no problem!
In this version, WhatsApp is recording the voice without problems! Later versions are bugged, and I don't know when they will fix it!!!For Opera GX the same procedure does not work! But I managed to solve it!
Link to Opera GX version 97.0.4719.61 from 5 Apr 2023.https://get.opera.com/ftp/pub/opera_gx/
choose the operating system "win" and several options will appear, download
Opera_GX_97.0.4719.61_Setup_x64.exe
After installing (same recomendations as with Opera Classic), as soon as Opera GX opens, close it quickly to avoid the program trying to update the version by itself! This is fundamental!
After installation then, using winws browser, ENABLE HIDDEN FOLDERS IN THE BROWSER AND NAVIGATE to:
C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera GX
Search for the file
"opera_autoupdate.exe" and rename it to
"opera_autoupdate.exe.old".Youβre ready! Opera GX will open but won't be able to update!!!
In this version, WhatsApp is recording the voice without any problems! Later versions are bugged, and I don't know when they will fix it!!!
This was the way I found to make WhatsApp functional again. Remember that WhatsApp on the left sidebar, actually is a "camouflaged" version of WhatsApp Web. So the problem is with the new versions of the browser that are bugged! Just do not let Opera update the version because then the problem comes back!
Hope this helps while they donβt fix the bug inside the program!
Regards!
