Good Afternoon,
I would like to know if the whatapp client integrated in opera is encrypted. e.g., if someone has access to the PC disk, can they find traces of the conversations in the browser cache or elsewhere?

@leocg Thanks for the reply. So, the traffic is encrypted end to end, but what does it caches? I mean, when I open the panel, Opera syncs the messages. So, somewhere, it has to have that copy of the messages, I guess...
Have I understood wrong? (maybe I didn't understood how Whatsapp web works...) -

opera://aboutand take note of the "profile" and cahce paths. Then, in Windows Explorer (File Explorer) (with file extensions and hidden items enabled via View -> Show), goto the profile folder. You'll see a "Local Storage" folder and an IndexedDB folder. Conversations might be cached in there. The databases are in binary form, so you'd have to use some database reader program to see them. Then, goto the cache path. In it will be a "Cache" folder. Conversations might be stored there instead/also. They're binary files too though.The cache files aren't encrypted on disk and I don't think items in the databases are either. But, their data isn't out in the open. If you want more protection than that, make sure you use a good Windows account password for one and, use whole-disk encryption if you really need to.

The WhatsApp client integrated in Opera is encrypted with end-to-end encryption, but messages stored on your PC may be accessible to anyone who has access to your PC's disk.

@burnout426 thanks for the answer. So what you're saying, by using might, is that it's not clear what's being cached. I would tend to think it can't be the messages, since otherwise the whole encryption thing loses some value...

Pretty much. If you dig deep enough into the files, etc., you could probably figure it out. But, short of that, it's not clear.
