Windows 11 user here. Not entirely sure what causes this to occur but its really annoying having new windows (ctrl+n) pop-up and I can never find any meaningful way to solve this bug. Its happened five times as of writing this and I have no idea how exactly to recreate it because I can leave my desktop alone for five minutes and I'll have at least 10 new windows opened. Its annoying having to constantly manage new windows like they're pop-up ads and I might have to switch to chrome if this continues.

@warrior24110 The tabs/windows are empty or they open with a certain page?

I would start by disabling all extensions. If it doesn't help, I would check the system for malware.

I also would check if a third party software isn't trying to open a webpage.

Also, did this happen on an earlier system such as Windows 10?

Set Chrome as the default browser on Windows for a tad and see if it starts opening new windows all the time. Then, at least you'll know it's not Opera specifically but something (malware maybe) targeting the default browser.

I too has this bug, it's happening both to my bedside laptop and desktop. However not as often as you I think, and usually no more than 1 extra window. Every time I go to bed I have to close an opera window. and the window is allways the defult new tab in in new window page.

still no fix to this?? its starting to piss me off because its every time my computer goes to sleep almost and its not even that i have opera closed, i'll have tabs from the day or hours before and for whatever reason a whole new window opens. its like its mistaking sleep for when the computer starts up after being shut off since ik it has that "open at start up" option. please someone or an operator find a fix to it its driving me insane

I have been running into the exact same problem, sometimes as many as 3 times a day.

Opera is not my default browser, it just opens to my blank home page. no other browser does this and this behavior continues, even when setting opera as my default browser.

My only installed extentions are Opera add blocker (enabled) and opera wallet (disabled).

I am currently testing if it still happens with add blocker disabled.

Disabled the Add blocker as well, still occurred multiple times.

Hi. I also hate it but then i found a solution, which was to disable the adblocker multiple times before starting the Windows. Hope you resolve this matter promptly.
