Hey Guys/Girls - Not sure if anyone who works at Opera reads these forums, but I wanted to reach out with a post (an open letter if you like) about why so many people are complaining about lack of support for Opera Sync on iOS.

My use case isn't that unique having spoken to colleagues, but here goes:

Lots of us are migrating away from Google Chrome. It's memory management is the pits, it's privacy stance is highly questionable and it's constant steering of users to sign in with Google using an account that Chrome automatically remembers is hugely annoying for anyone who signs in with more than one Google account.

As a result, we've all started trialling alternative browsers at work, and after a brief fling with Edge, I decided it wasn't for me and jumped over to Opera. I love the simple layout, the responsiveness and the way you guys handle things like extensions.

The reason I don't use Safari on this device is because I don't have a work mobile, and I need access to some work resources from both iPhone and iPad when out and about. Using Safari on my work machine would mean that I'd be able to sync data to an Apple ID, but on my personal devices, I'd be unable to see things like bookmarks, open tabs and history, because iOS doesn't facilitate profile switching between two Apple ID's, hence I choose a 3rd party browser.

I literally live in Opera all day, every day for work, and I was so happy when I saw Opera Sync as an option. I created my account straight away, sync'd everything up and connected/tested sync using my Windows test box (I'm on macOS if that wasn't clear by now).

Having installed 'Opera Browser' from the App Store, I had no reason at all to doubt that Opera Sync wouldn't be there, front and centre as soon as I ran the app, but alas, I was wrong. Essentially, my iPad/iPhone are running a completely separate browser to my work machine, with no sensible method for syncing basic data between my devices. I understand that Flow is an option for things like open tabs, but that's really not a good enough solution for the type of heavy lifting I need to do for work. If I'm logged into an admin interface for something on my work laptop, I need to be able to walk out of the door to take the kids to school and quickly login to disable user accounts, reset passwords etc on the road. Flow doesn't facilitate that at all without a lot of third party complication (copy pasting passwords/3rd party password managers/storing URLs in a shared document, etc).

I don't want this to seem like a whinge, at all. I just wanted to share why this is important, and why some of the more whiney people on this forum are complaining about the feature.

I don't expect you to develop this overnight. It might not even be on a roadmap and I don't expect to influence that at all, but if someone out there could let us know why this hasn't been developed, or tell us straight what the technical limitation is, there are a bunch of folks who will be able to make a better informed choice about what browser they're using.

If you were to say this feature is coming in 12 months', I'd stick with Opera without hesitation. If the answer is that the feature is never coming because my use case isn't a strategic priority or you don't have the devs to get it over the line, then I'd probably jump ship, but at least we'd be being honest with each other.
