After a recent update I now have 2 Start Menu shortcuts to Opera in 2 different locations -

      • AppData\Local\Programs\Opera
        ...which is new to me
        and
      • Program Files (x86)\Opera
...which is where I expected it to be.

Any suggestions as to why, and if I should delete the Local install or shortcut link?

      Cheers

That's weird. Under AppData\Local\Programs I only have a folder called Common which is empty, Opera is under C:\Program Files\Opera (not x86, I guess we all have 64 bit CPUs by now).
Did you compare the folders' dates (creation and modification) and sizes?

@ephergie Opera wasn't able to install itself for all users in Program Files, then it installed for current user in users\username\programs....

Do you have a 64-bit version of Windows or a 32-bit version?

If a 64-bit version, do you want to run the 32-bit version of Opera or do you want to run the 64-bit version (recommended)?

Do you want Opera installed for just your Windows user account at "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera" (the default) or do you want Opera installed at "C:\Program files\Opera" (personally recommended and where most other browsers install to by default) (or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera" if you want the 32-bit version of Opera)?

Long story short, you can specifically download the bit version of Opera you want from https://www.opera.com/download, close Opera, uninstall Opera (don't choose to delete your data when uninstalling Opera), delete any install folders that remain, launch the Opera installer, click "options", set "install for" to "all users" or "current user" depending on what you want, set "install location" to match the "install for" type and bit version, adjust any other options you want to, and install. That will fix things.

Thanks for all the help, folks - I'll do a clean install of the 64 bit version (keeping user data) and make sure I target C:\Program files\Opera.

Once again, your help is very much appreciated. Have a good one.
