[Duplicated] Default search engine keeps backing to Google

Why does Opera (Version:88.0.4412.53) keep defaulting to Google search engine when I start Opera?
I've tried to find a way to stop this happening - my preferred search engine is DDG.

@twapehs So you change the default search engine to DDG but when you do a search in address bar, the results page is Google?

The results, after changing from Google are DDG but I have to reset the default search engine from Google each time I start Opera (my preferred browser)
It's, on the scale of things, minor (a good example of first world problem) but infuriating.

@twapehs I use DDG and it stays as default for the address bar even after I restart Opera (88.0.4412.53). I also turn on "Hide search box" in the Start Page settings.

@leocg Years ago, there was a “Use as Speed Dial search engine” in the Search settings. Why was that removed?

I have the same version of Opera as you.
I also have "Hide search box" turned on in the Start Page setting on my PC... always returns to Google at restart, I'm baffled as to why.

@888larson Opera Chromium never had such option as far as I can remember.

@leocg Must have been Presto then. Time flies!
Interestingly, if you change the default search to DDG in Google Chrome, it updates both the address bar and the search box on the new tab page. Edge will change the address bar but Bing search box is permanent.
