      Hi
When trying to check a password am asked to enter a password. What password do you use to get that password?

@jp089 Your OS password, the one you use to login in your computer.

@jp089 You may have set up your OS to not require a login, but you have a password that you've created when installing the OS or that was given to you.

If you don't have an OS password set, when asked for your OS password, try just pressing enter.

Did the problem start right after that? OS password changes can sometimes cause your passwords to be inaccessible. But, you should no if that's the case and going to the URL opera://settings/passwords wouldn't show any entries that were created before the OS password change.

Why do I need to enter my OS password, to see my Opera password, especially when I'm already signed in to Opera???
I just created a new one, which Opera saved, yet it didn't change in my keychain, and even when I go to my account page here, it won't show me my own password, only option is to change it again! I don't want to give Opera my OS password, why does it need that? That only puts all my personal data at risk, just to see my own password, for an account I'm already logged into?
This is ridiculous.... Oh, I somehow got taken to the Windows section, but I guess it's the same principle.

@stevenjcee That's how Chromium works,it encrypts your saved passwords using your OS login credentials.
So to show them, Opera needs to decrypt the data and, therefore, asks the OS password for that.

@leocg Well, how does it know my OS password to begin with? I didn't give it to Opera, or another browser, besides maybe Safari. And that still doesn't explain why I can be auto-logged into Opera, yet Opera can't tell me the password it just saw, in order to log me in? Really? Please tell me how that makes any sense at all?
Some sites may require a two-step login, where if there's any question as to whether it was me, they send a code to my phone or email, I put that in, and am on my way. Why it asks for my OS password, is wack, and I'm not going to ever give it to them.

@stevenjcee It doesn't know your OS password, that's why you are asked to provide it

@stevenjcee You can be logged in to a site even if you never save the password for it, those things are not related. What keep you logged in are cookies and related stuff.

@leocg If it doesn't know my OS password, then how will it know if what I fill in is correct? The whole point is for Opera to verify if I'm me, so this makes even less sense.
And why is that little red, round circle with the black "CBS" eye logo still sitting on this page?

@stevenjcee The OS will inform that the password is incorrect. The prompt you see asking for your OS password is from the OS itself and not from Opera.
