Using Goolge Maps as default

Hi
I'm a newbie on Opera and I'm wondering if it is possible to set Opera so that the "Map" selector under the search bar and between "News" and "Shopping" opens Google Maps?

Do you mean that you are using duckduckgo as default search engine and now you want it to use google maps?

Yes I'm using Duckduckgo as my default search engine in Opera browser.

Search results for a location give map which I understand is "based" an Apple maps. I would like to be able to alter the settings so that map is Google map instead

Like leocg said, map service on duckduckgo search is provided by duckduckgo itself and only they can change their behavior, not Opera.
It likely would be possible to create some extension, changing map button on this page to google one, also likely no one has created it yet.

Sure one can use maps like I do - open google (or some other) maps page and find information there, independently of any search results; of course every user has different needs and habits.
