[Solved]Default application for clicked links

I can find no way to set what application should be opened when a link is clicked, eg. MS Word for .doc files, Foxit for .pdf, etc. Opera just downloads the file, but i don't want the PC cluttered up with files i don't want to keep, neither do I want the fag of finding and opening them.

Surely there is a way to assign default applications?

@ardony You can't open a file without downloading it. That said, there isn't any setting to automatically open a file in a third party program after the download.

Really? That's a serious omission from an otherwise outstanding browser. So many slick and convenient functions and yet something as elementary as this is missing?
Anyway, thanks for a quick response and saving me from wasting any more time looking for something that's not there.
