Are messenger extensions always open?

I downloaded this browser today mainly because of this feature and I have a question.
Is the messenger extension always open? For example if you have WhatsApp would it show that you are online all the time when the browser is open?

@stenlysaid You could always visit the site and log out, or delete the cookies for that service. And some services may allow you to select your status.
