Persistent WhatsApp notification

The WhatsApp notification has for two days light up red, as if there is an unread message, when there in fact isn't. This has not happened before.
Opera version: 77.0.4054.277

@leocg My apologies, I thought I was using the latest version as Opera regurlarly self-updates.
I don't understand how I am to simply disable notifications. I can find no settings for this, apart from Notifications - Sounds/Desktop notifications, which are already disabled. The issue is the little red dot that appears next to the icon, which won't go away lately.

@leocg Thank you, I found it. It's a temporary solution; it disappears when I disable/enable it but reappears the next time I start Opera.

@leocg Yes. My version is 78.0.4093.147, which it tells me is the latest.

Had the same problem. Disable and enable the notification did not solve my problem, but logout and relogin in the Opera's WhasApp Messenger solved my problem.

@carloyotl I don't have it here. WhatsApp icon in sidebar shows no notification red dot.

@tasha1241 you could try leocg's solution, which is update to the latest version and then disable and enable the notifications.
And maybe ... check the most basic possibility. Make sure there is no unread chat thread in your WhatsApp

@tasha1241 leocg's solution is not disable and enable the whatsapp, but disable and enable the notification on whatsapp sidebar.
the steps should be :- click your whatsapp sidebar
- click the 3 dots (menu) beside your profile
- choose settings
- choose notifications and disable all the choices available
- reenable the choices like before

I've solved by filtering unreaded messages. It was old messages from a conversation to a contact that auto delets messages after 24h
