<![CDATA[Persistent WhatsApp notification]]>The WhatsApp notification has for two days light up red, as if there is an unread message, when there in fact isn't. This has not happened before.

the steps should be :

  1. click your whatsapp sidebar
  2. click the 3 dots (menu) beside your profile
  3. choose settings
  4. choose notifications and disable all the choices available
  5. reenable the choices like before

And maybe ... check the most basic possibility. Make sure there is no unread chat thread in your WhatsApp

Disable and enable the notification did not solve my problem, but logout and relogin in the Opera's WhasApp Messenger solved my problem.

I don't understand how I am to simply disable notifications. I can find no settings for this, apart from Notifications - Sounds/Desktop notifications, which are already disabled. The issue is the little red dot that appears next to the icon, which won't go away lately.
