ALT key triggering disruptive menu drop

I've looked around the previous posts regarding disabling the disruptive issue of having the menu drop down when touching the ALT key, but there does not appear to be an official statement to either confirm or deny any active work on fixing the issue.
It seems to be a huge cause of frustration over the years and there does not appear to be an obvious solution. Can someone point me in the right direction to somehow disabling the drop down menu, whether it is an official method or an unofficial workaround?
I've tried both Opera and Opera GX, and the problem persists.

@sgunhouse Thanks for the reply. I understand that the ALT key is meant to trigger the menu function.
I'm experiencing an issue where I hit ALT+D for the address bar and it successfully highlights the text that I'm looking to replace, but if you typed something and decide to select the address bar again with ALT+D, it opens up the menu instead of highlighting the text in the address bar again. on occasion. It was just something I noticed when comparing to other browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, or even Edge. Perhaps the sensitivity is a bit high compared to other browsers?
I'm looking to just tone down how frequently the menu pops up when I press ALT shortcuts and I'm not sure how to make Opera imitate the behaviours of other browsers in terms of the menu pop up.

@godsho First of Alt-D is actually Focus Address Field, so if you're already typing in it then it should do nothing. I'd recommend Ctrl-A (Select all) for what you actually wanted to do. But you did press Alt+key and not just tap Alt, so it shouldn't have displayed the menu even if it considered the combination meaningless. I'll have to see if I can duplicate the issue here; if I can I'll file an issue on the bug tracker about it.

@sgunhouse Sorry if it's against the rules to reply to old posts like this but I am still having this problem, is there really no way to disable the "alt" key dropping down the left menu? I can confirm that when I press alt+r to bring up NVIDIA performance overlay, I also have this problem when I'm browsing opera, it is quite inconvenient.
If I do hit them both perfectly in sync then it doesn't happen but this isn't consistent and sometimes there is a slight lag in between pressing the keys which results in this inconvenience, is there no way to change the shortcut of this menu dropdown or disable it entirely? -

@theebus No. In Windows if you tap Alt by itself it is supposed to focus the menu bar for keyboard access. As Opera has no menu bar they chose to display the menu - that is reasonable. But if you press and hold Alt to press a combination like Alt-P there should be no menu. I'll have to message the developers again.

@sgunhouse Your suggestion of holding it down works and I had no idea about the default windows function which you even mentioned in the above posts, my apologies for not reading your comments properly, and thank you for the prompt response, I appreciate it.
