Interrupted: Virus Scan Failed
Hello. I have searched this site for info about this issue & come up with a 7 year old string 29 pages long which does not get to the bottom of it. I can't be the only one.
The problem is this..
I can't download anything. The progress bar goes green but as soon as I click anything it says Interrupted: Virus Scan Failed.
That is hopeless & I can't use it. Please can somebody help. Thanks in advance.I am running Version:74.0.3911.144 on Windows 7 pro 64.

Do you mean that turning off real-time scanning doesn't make the problem go away? If so, try going to the URL
opera://extensions
in Opera to see if you have an extension for Avira. If so, disable that to see if it helps. If you have to, as a test, uninstall Avira to see if the problem goes away and report back here the result.

Do you have any McAfee products installed on your system too? What about Zone Alarm (forcefield for example)?
If you use to have McAfee, use the removal tool linked on this page to make sure everything is uninstalled properly.
Also, see https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/211687-malware-in-my-browser-cant-download-anything/?do=findComment&comment=1168424. It talks about checking the presence of the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Attachments" key in the registry and make sure the "ScanWithAntiVirus" dword in it is set to 3. It talks about checking for "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" for an attachment key too.
Also see https://www.google.com/search?q=scanwithantivirus+registry+key and https://www.google.com/search?q=Interrupted%3A+Virus+Scan+Failed. For the latter link, look at this Microsoft thread. Sounds like it might have something to do with Windows Defender instead of other Antivirus software. But, check everything.

Thank you for your time on this.
Deleted Avira, no change
Switched off Defender, no change
Tried to do a windows update (they still appear to be offering them for 7. It stops half way through installation.
Tried to download Avira again. Guess what!
No downloads allowed.I edited the registry ey as described in the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\AttachmentsThe problem didn't go away but after reading the next link you sent..
https://www.google.com/search?q=scanwithantivirus+registry+key and https://www.google.com/search?q=Interrupted%3A+Virus+Scan+Failed
I read that it should be set at 1 not 3.
Job done.
Next thing, see if Windows will update again.
Will report bac on that too. -

As a test, you can create a new user account on Windows and see how things work there. That will tell you if it's a system-wide problem or limited to your current user account. If the latter, it might help you zone in on the problem better.
