Opera.com/connect will not connect

I've been trying to solve this issue for few weeks now. In order to connect my android phone (Xiaomi Redmi Note 3; Android 6.0.1. MMB29M; MIUI Global 10.2.1.0) via Flow it tells me to connect it using the opera.com/connect website.
I proceed to the said url.
It displays the QR code on my desktop. I scan it with my phone- red screen pops up, saying that "the connection was declined by the other device". The desktop keeps displaying the QR code, like there is no connection to the phone what-so-ever...

What I've tried so far:

1. reinstalling the app
2. logging out from both the devices
3. logging in back again into both devices

none of the above have seemed to work so far

@michster Apparently not, and the problem in the Android version most likely will not be able to solve it. Check on a device with a more recent Android version.

Hi, I had the same problem but I found a solution. You should not try to login with the QR code, you must enter with your email and password, then it will give a problem to synchronize your bookmarks and information, try to login again, as suggested, but it will not allow it, below it will say if you have problems entering, select that option, once there it will tell you to follow a few steps in www.sync.opera.com, then you will have to press "Reset Passphrase" and then enter with your password, it will work there.

Damm even I am having a similar kind of issue, I have searched all over the internet and even have posted on number of threads on different forum, no solution seems to work. I am really frustrated, can anyone of you here help me resolve this issue, I am very much tired now.

@damecruz yeah, no- I can sync my bookmarks, browsing history and cookies fine using that method, but for example Opera Flow requires me to use the QR code first, anyway.

@michster You need to have the VPN enabled for it to work.

@michster I have the same problem with an older Android phone that I just use as a tablet/pad. I think it's because it's an old version of android, 6.0, that is simply not compatible.
I can install and use Opera by itself but I can't sync with my other newer phone or my laptop

I put Opera on TV BOX. There is NO camera. What should be done in this case?

I was able to solve this problem by rolling back to an earlier version of Opera. I downloaded Opera 85. Then opera.com/connect works just fine.
