Opera is crashing when I open Amazon

  • Hi,

about 2-3 weeks ago I had a crash problem with Opera portable,
now I have a similar problem with a normally installed Opera.
    old problem: https://forums.opera.com/topic/45669/opera-portable-infinite-crashing-on-startup

    new problem:
Everything was ok with my Opera installation, but today it crashed on startup when trying to restore the previous session. However, unlike the portable version, this version managed to disable all the extensions and stops crashing.
Now that all extensions are disabled the browser and all websites work fine, but when I try to open Amazon, the browser will crash!

How can I fix this? Maybe it has to do with the advertisement for the Amazon Assistant Extension. Opera will ask if you want to add the Amazon Assistant to Opera. Perhaps this is the reason why it crashes.

  • I got the same issue a few weeks ago. I have the full version installed on newly build Win10 Pro
Opera crashed on amazon even I disable the privacy protection.

  • I had to install Adblock plus plugin, and now it'working again

  • @helloroad good to know that I'm not the only one with this issue.
This also happened on 2 completely different Windows 10 PCs,
they even have 2 different security software. Disabling them did not help either.

With the portable version I even messed around a lot to make it work again.
I made a backup archive file for the whole folder and tried to delete files like cache, cookies, extensions ... but nothing fixed the "infinite crashing" issue, except for deleting the entire profile folder.

I'm pretty sure it's related with Opera asking you to install the Amazon Assistant Extensions.
Furthermore, I think after clicking something like "don't show this again" Opera started crashing. I also had the Extension "Keepa", an Amazon price tracker installed on both Operas.
It's an extension that only works by using "Install Chrome Extensions" in Opera.

Perhaps Keepa and the Opera "would you like to install Amazon Assistant" conflict with each other.

However, even if all extensions, including Keepa and Install Chrome Extensions are disabled, opening the Amazon website will still instantly crash Opera.

  • Some more things that I have tested:

    • deleting all cookies, cache, etc. all checkboxes checked, does NOT fix the issue

    • in private mode I can open any amazon website without a problem

    • resetting opera to factory defaults in the options fixes it, but I don't want to lose all my settings and cookies

    • installing Keepa and Install Chrome Extensions does NOT make Amazon crash after I reset Opera, however my Opera installations worked fine for days, but then the crash bug happened, and I think this was when Opera offered me to install Amazon Assistant once again, even though I had clicked "don't show this again"

  • If you have the problem istall the amazon Extension and disable it. that worked for me.

  • @rnb No crash here.

  • @rnb said in Opera is crashing when I open Amazon:

I got the same issue. Cant we just log out off our profile, reset the browser and then login and sync our seetings again?

  • @rnb Yes, private mode works for me.

  • @helloroad If it works in a private window, then probably an extension is causing the issue. It can also be a broken profile directory or a setting.

  • @cornelius77 I also did the same. Adblock Plus is working and now I can surf Amazon site without crashes. Thanks 🙂

  • @stahl1990 It works for me. Thx !

  • same problem

  • @stahl1990 thx you bro ❤

  • @stahl1990 Thanks, it works now.

  • Opera closes itself when I launch the amazon site.
Opera GX no longer opens since it was installed. I closed the page, then when I wanted to restart, it opened - kept closing with a page "crashing" and unable to access the browser.
I've Windows 10, and no problem with my computer.

    What to do?
    Thank you

  • @c10h16o If the page is crashing, you'll have to go into the folder and delete your session file. You could try very quickly pressing ESC when you start to cancel the operation, but going into your profile folder to delete the session is next after that. And if that doesn't work, then a profile reset.

  • @c10h16o Check above.

  • @stahl1990 Thanks that exactly fixed it lending credence to the opinion it's Opera trying to ask to install if it isn't.
Opera is getting way too many affiliates and trying to shove them down our throats IMHO.

  • I turned off and on opera add blocker and amazon started to work
