@burnout426 You're the man! Thank you so much! The disable params thing did no change anything but your link to solution #4 nailed it. The output of Opera was empty. Resetting it solved it for me. Supercool, thank you again!

I know what sandbox is (vaguely) but this command didn't work for me. This is under WIN10 correct? I'm willing to try different syntax, probably a minor glitch in how I entered the command. Very creative answer even if it didn't work for me but it did work for @Jaabadaa so I am encouraged!

I managed to respond to the wrong reply. Disregard

@scav23 In one of these threads I pointed out to people that Windows is capable of adjusting volume for each program separately, and that people need to check Volume Control and see if this is their problem.
-- I know right? It's as if the above (exhaustive) thread was not read. I think I keep track of this for a personal experiment to see what people come up with, and to see if it's ever resolved. It was once resolved, it is somehwere above, in 2011ish, where there was a code hack. It's mystifying how this even happens.
Kind of like my thread on Madagascar 3 in ROKU. It can be traced to like 2008 or 9. Still unresolved. Also unresolved is the Samsung S series light issue. The light is "in use" so the camera and well, nothing works. That goes back to 2006. My father in law was spot on that they don't write new code, they just recycled old bad code and never fix anything.

@john-phd Did you try #4 at https://appuals.com/fix-google-chrome-sound-not-working/. That's what worked for @Jaabadaa.

Well, no not really. That forum is for Chrome, not Opera. However, upon looking (in Opera) choosing a default audio device is not an option that is available. I looked the other day, and I looked today, but no.... no such options can be set that I can find, just usual browser stuff.
I will point out having tried that option is that the sound is back on again. This is after an OS reinstall maybe a year ago, then an OS Upgrade 6 months ago as I decided I needed to install Win10 on my home computer. While this is a fix, it is a drastic one.
I anticipate that it will go out again but like I said in an earlier post, I'll keep this thread open out of curiosity.

Opera and Chrome are both based on Chromium, so they share a lot of the same behavior and the same solutions to issues.

@burnout426 yes, and most windows software have commonalities . Take for instance graphics; Photoshop has historically put "Crop" under the image menu, not under the edit menu, GIMP emulates photoshop quite a lot, but others put crop under "edit". Browsers are little different from each other, I'll agree to that. It's good for business, and the users don't have to relearn everything.
However, the problems begin when Chrome has an audio control, and Opera doesn't It took a while before I noticed the mute button in Chrome initially, but nothing in Opera.
I looked at #4, tried it a couple of times but after investing more time that I cared to, and finding nothing, I'll just keep an eye on this thread, and popcorn at the ready.

@leocg You're right leo. I was mistaken. Sorry about that. You were responding to a comment by Derrek Tilbury.

@john-phd Hey man, thanks for this topic.
I also got this problem today after I restarted my PC. I never had problems with sound before (Win7+external USB sound card). Sound works in other programs like Windows, Winamp, VLC.
Solution That Worked :
- Add these commands
--disable-features=AudioServiceSandbox --disable-features=AudioServiceOutOfProcess
to the shortcut path. Done.
What I Tried:
- Disabling unused audio devices
- Routing the sound through a virtual cable
- Installing a fresh copy of Opera
- Add these commands

@john-phd I had the same problem for months like this. I just downloaded ffmpeg codecs for opera and got my problem solved. I'm not tech savvy and I am using Manjaro Linux OS so I don't know how to go about doing this on Windows. I was missing the codecs you see.
Anyway just a thought.

In my case it happened right after re-installing SP-1717 (IDT) to regain the beats controller, that might be the course of my problem or For Most Of Us the Early Bird option to have the latest build is turned ON. (Access new builds sooner and test features still in development. Toggling 'Early Bird' on shares important usage information and enables fault reporting to help us improve.)
My take check for that.

@john-phd had this exact same issue and the ear trumpet solution actually worked when u run it itll pop up in your tray where your bluetooth and stuff is at juat click it and unmute opera problem solved

You will have to explain "ear trumpet solution" because where I sit that means absolutely nothing.
I am unsure....no... I'm going to say I am very sure you didn't really read the thread above about this issue. "Unmuting" something is elementary, it's beneath even basic troubleshooting and is something even a novice should know to do ( I am way past novice for a couple of decades).

accusing me of not reading a post when ive already stated i have had the exact same issue? maybe your not as smart as u claim? if it was an issue of muting i would have sorted that out long ago the audio device for the media player is quite literally disabled with no alternative but to download ear trumpet and force re enable it now go sip your tea and pretend to be higher and mightier than u actually are u rude old man ill just continue watching videos on my now working opera browser
as a side note i would like to re emphasize that its not as simple as "unmuting" the audio if it was that ridiculous i wouldnt bother even posting.... the issue was that i would reinstall opera and the jingle for opera would play but literally no media of any kind would play any sound but it would work in literally every other browser with no issues and it seemingly disabled itself while i was away from the computer your wasting my time by having to explain this to a seemingly inept man when it comes to technology

@mightysquish Uhmm... perhaps some confusion has resulted from the terminology "ear trumpet"? I've personally never heard that term used, and I'm uncertain as to what you were referring to... perhaps the 'loudspeaker' icon in the tool tray?
edit: *Aha!! After doing some lookups, I see that "Ear Trumpet" is a volume control app that can be downloaded... I learned something new! However, it might have been useful to have noted that in your original mention of it.

@mightysquish There's no accusation on the mentioned post, just someone talking about what solved the problem for him/her.
