@john-phd said in web based media has no sound in Opera:

That forum is for Chrome, not Opera.

Opera and Chrome are both based on Chromium, so they share a lot of the same behavior and the same solutions to issues.

@burnout426 yes, and most windows software have commonalities . Take for instance graphics; Photoshop has historically put "Crop" under the image menu, not under the edit menu, GIMP emulates photoshop quite a lot, but others put crop under "edit". Browsers are little different from each other, I'll agree to that. It's good for business, and the users don't have to relearn everything.

However, the problems begin when Chrome has an audio control, and Opera doesn't It took a while before I noticed the mute button in Chrome initially, but nothing in Opera.

I looked at #4, tried it a couple of times but after investing more time that I cared to, and finding nothing, I'll just keep an eye on this thread, and popcorn at the ready.

@leocg You're right leo. I was mistaken. Sorry about that. You were responding to a comment by Derrek Tilbury.

@john-phd Hey man, thanks for this topic.

I also got this problem today after I restarted my PC. I never had problems with sound before (Win7+external USB sound card). Sound works in other programs like Windows, Winamp, VLC.

            Solution That Worked :

            • Add these commands --disable-features=AudioServiceSandbox --disable-features=AudioServiceOutOfProcess
              to the shortcut path. Done.

            What I Tried:

            • Disabling unused audio devices
            • Routing the sound through a virtual cable
            • Installing a fresh copy of Opera

@john-phd I had the same problem for months like this. I just downloaded ffmpeg codecs for opera and got my problem solved. I'm not tech savvy and I am using Manjaro Linux OS so I don't know how to go about doing this on Windows. I was missing the codecs you see.

              Anyway just a thought.

In my case it happened right after re-installing SP-1717 (IDT) to regain the beats controller, that might be the course of my problem or For Most Of Us the Early Bird option to have the latest build is turned ON. (Access new builds sooner and test features still in development. Toggling 'Early Bird' on shares important usage information and enables fault reporting to help us improve.)

                My take check for that.

You will have to explain "ear trumpet solution" because where I sit that means absolutely nothing.

I am unsure....no... I'm going to say I am very sure you didn't really read the thread above about this issue. "Unmuting" something is elementary, it's beneath even basic troubleshooting and is something even a novice should know to do ( I am way past novice for a couple of decades).

accusing me of not reading a post when ive already stated i have had the exact same issue? maybe your not as smart as u claim? if it was an issue of muting i would have sorted that out long ago the audio device for the media player is quite literally disabled with no alternative but to download ear trumpet and force re enable it now go sip your tea and pretend to be higher and mightier than u actually are u rude old man ill just continue watching videos on my now working opera browser

as a side note i would like to re emphasize that its not as simple as "unmuting" the audio if it was that ridiculous i wouldnt bother even posting.... the issue was that i would reinstall opera and the jingle for opera would play but literally no media of any kind would play any sound but it would work in literally every other browser with no issues and it seemingly disabled itself while i was away from the computer your wasting my time by having to explain this to a seemingly inept man when it comes to technology

@mightysquish Uhmm... perhaps some confusion has resulted from the terminology "ear trumpet"? I've personally never heard that term used, and I'm uncertain as to what you were referring to... perhaps the 'loudspeaker' icon in the tool tray?

edit: *Aha!! After doing some lookups, I see that "Ear Trumpet" is a volume control app that can be downloaded... I learned something new! However, it might have been useful to have noted that in your original mention of it.

@mightysquish There's no accusation on the mentioned post, just someone talking about what solved the problem for him/her.

@blackbird71 Yes, this was my first question (which @mightysquish did not address, but rather got hopping mad and started rambling about accusations)

But yes... if you consider me accusing you of something @MightySquish , then you must suffer from a guilty conscience. From the beginning and since you have claimed to have read this entire and exhaustive thread, it starts out early on with basic steps.

"ear trumpet" it seems as an app. So to me, this is no differenthn that the many (many ) audio controllers that come OEM or from sound card manufacturers that are just volume controls with extra steps. Adding more layers to that doesn't get to the core of Opera functionality

To refer you to an earlier post of mine, the issue went away after an unstiall and reinstall several months apart, and I am not currently using Opera but keep checking back her to see what people say.

At least it's not marked "Solved" like the unresolved lighting conflict (since 2006, we are approaching 20 years for the S series) on the Samsung series phones that still plague my life.

Nobody claimed being smart, just thorough.

@john-phd i am going to post a tutorial on fixing your exact issue with opera audio since I had a copy of the exact same issue. If that's not enough for you, then I'm sorry. Then I guess you have no interest in knowing the solution to said problem.

                                          1. Go to the Microsoft store for reference. It's the little thing that looks like the windows logo on your taskbar. If you have deleted it, just search for it where it says type here to search. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jqmtzfBOiuQJ6Wf4O5CUKCxqOcfS_i6g/view?usp=drive_link

                                          2. Search for the app called ear trumpet. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gPkYJney0DZWAUyncBj0n4FleMKJRT21/view?usp=drive_link
then download the app called ear trumpet, https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YqP2NKi04SbruQCVxf2AW1LzwJwtz9wY/view?usp=drive_link
and finally USE the app called ear trumpet https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wRCys2VX7ZbXV75i2bgkxnyAebtRGMBo/view?usp=drive_link

Now that I have it all laid out for you (and even in video form no less), let's address your previous points.

                                          1. point number one is that your idea of it being an audio card issue etc. etc. is NOT the case as I've had the exact same issue down to the letter now. What you may ask is "then why are you using brave browser in your videos?" It is simply because I prefer brave over the other browsers out there currently and back when I found and tested this solution, I preferred opera.

                                          2. Now john, my own very valid point. This audio issue is in no way windows related. it is in no way audio card related. This is an opera issue. It cannot be fixed in the opera settings (I have tried). It cannot be fixed in windows sound settings (I have tried). It cannot be fixed by rebooting the computer (i have tried). Is there anything I'm missing? Heck, it's been awhile but I've probably tried that too ear trumpet was the only solution. If there are any more questions. I have even recorded videos laying out the steps for you if you ever want to simply try them again.

to end this little step by step tutorial for any future users who have this issue john, by the very fact that you have stated your field of expertise, most people will in fact infer that you are smart.

For those who have had this issue and still have this issue, this solution is for you. @NH2022 is the one who recommended it and it was only due to this I was able to diagnose and fix the problem, so all props go to him, thanks man 😃

As a side note, I wanted to add that if it were as simple as muting or unmuting the speaker from the task bar, I can say with 100% certainty that I would have figured out such a simple solution. But the opera audio bug is a hidden mute button that somehow gets activated accidentally, and the only way to enable it is by either downloading and installing ear trumpet or, as you have said, waiting several months after uninstallation for the problem to be solved. However, this solution is immediate, and the answer I'm assuming you have been curious about maybe? Not all software is the same. In all your knowledge thus far, This is one key factor you seem to be forgetting, and it has been the very thing that led you to waste your time on so many other posts instead of looking at the one halfway up this thread and just being done with it. You just chased a random rabbit instead for amusement, I guess? Oh well, moving on; at least it's here for others later on. Here's the solution to your problem (in the vast majority of cases relating to this issue, I would assume).
