Where are (some) passwords coming from?

  • When I go into a website, Opera dutifully fills in my ID and password. Plus, and not that it matters, I have a FileMaker database of IDs and passwords. For some sites, my password is filled in and works, but yet it is not in my FileMaker database, it's not in Opera's password list, and it's not in macOS Keychain. I hit one such site today and Opera's filled-in fields worked, but I wanted to look up what the password really is, and it's not to be found. Any idea where it came from?

  • @tlmurray Any examples of sites where it happens?

  • @leocg I will have to come back later. I saw an old reminder to ask about this, but in that reminder, I didn't record the site. Next time it happens, I'll come back. Thanks.

  • Possibly the login form is in an iframe with a different address. Sites that let you log in with Facebook or Google would do this, as an example.
