So I dont know if I have a unique issue with Opera or anything but I do want to figure out the answer or even know if I have a right to complain about any of this.

Even with the "many amazing features" Opera has on-deck to limit ram, network, and cpu usage and whatnot I still easily have this browser chugging along in the background taking up more processing power with an average of 7 tabs open while not being in-use. If it was just that I'd assume you guys would have an easy fix and a bajillion alternative solutions to figure this out with me, but even after that performance and resource consumption issue I have another which combined with that becomes an even bigger issue.

When I run or use Opera it keeps and runs a bunch more executables/tabs than what's necessary at the time. image_2023-03-30_050442487.png
This image right here is what I'm talking about. I have ONE tab open right now and yet opera needs 20 or more so tabs or executables open to keep that one tab running (I don't know the specific term so I will reference it as tab or executable).
I am not looking to have someone justify why I have this many executables open because it's literally indefensible when even a few are over a hundred MB's for only one tab, now imagine my typical 4-7 tabs open history and it all starts to track a little more that this becomes an even bigger exponential issue per tab opened. I don't need to know how or why, I just want it to stop so I can enjoy my sparing time on the computer without thinking I should use my computer as a microwave instead of an actual entertainment system or work device.

This is only two tabs open in Opera.
          image_2023-03-30_051119039.png
To the normal human beings should I just switch browsers, and to the devs/support staff why and what am I supposed to do.

@misterlupin As known and said several times, Chromium (Opera is a Chromium based browser) is multi-process and that's why you see several processes running even with just a few tabs opened. There is a process for the browser itself, one for each tab, one for each extension, one for the GPU process, one for the audio process, one for network process, etc, that you can see by going to menu > developer> task manager.

I have the "show where to download a file" option disabled but it keeps showing me that window, does someone know how to solve it?

@albt8 Depending on the file type you are downloading, the save as dialog will always show up for security reasons. There is no way to disable it.

                  how can i update operaGX???
tried to go in the settings, in the Help tab, even in the Updates and recovery one but all it says is that there is indeed a new update. no button to download it whatsover so its basically pointless to tell me that. so where am i supposed to update?

It would be really nice to get the topic title fixed to read, "The topic for things that were answered/discussed lots of times already".

Please fix the title. Thank you.

@aureatw You should see a button for you to click on to restart Opera GX and get the new build.

I'm miffed that there appears to be no way to do this.

Having a prefix is nice - when I can use the prefix... but, not all contexts allow me to do that.

If I wanna right-click -> search, I need it to search with Startpage. Every context that I want to search, unless I go out of my way to do a manual search, I want to use Startpage.

Opera is apparently restricting users from adding their own default search engine:

                        https://help.opera.com/en/latest/search/#defaultSearchEngine

Why? Does Opera make money from the already-listed search engines, and are told that no other ones can be set as a default by users? What kind of an alternative is that to other browsers? That sure sounds like Opera the browser is under the thumb of some search engines...

@opavicus Officially it's for security reasons that you can't add a custom search engine as the default one. And, like other browsers, Opera probably gets sone revenue from the searches performed using the default search engines.

This was probably requested several times already, but please bring back the option to put tab bar in the bottom of the browser. Please look back to some of the features present in OG Opera that we all loved and miss. I can't stress this enough, I moved on to Firefox because of the Chromium takeover and later on to Yandex, which is a Chromium Opera fork (that does have that option) and I really want to come back to Opera... Mainly at work because I'm a developer and I want my Firefox and Chrome there as clean as possible for testing my software, while using another browser for the daily work (there is no point in testing in Opera anymore because it's just yet another Chromium anyway)

How can I remove the google search bar on the speed dial page, or better yet, how can I replace it with DuckDuck Go?

Also, is there not a Home button that can be placed on the toolbar?

@emseabrook As already said, search engine in start page can be hidden but can't be changed.

And Opera doesn't even have a home page.

@emseabrook there is. But Opera's home page is the Speed Dial, so the button you are looking for is the Speed Dial button

Greetings, I want to deactivate the automatic updates of the Opera browser, this is because I am in an area where I connect via mobile data, so my MB is quite limited.
