I have added a number of search engines in addition to the out of the box defaults. It's pretty much the same drill as for any other Chromium based browser, except ...

      1. What does "use post" mean. I have ignored that checkbox and all works OK, but I'd like to know for future reference.

      2. Is is possible to make one of the search engines I added into the default? The option exists on the little drop down menu, but it won't take it when I click.

      3. Is it possible to delete a default search engine?

I wish to stress that I'm not a N00b when it comes to VPNs in general (on the job), but I never used them for web browsing. So no need to avoid getting technical.

First of all, I just want to say that I really love this feature, but I still have some questions.

        1. I note that some websites can tell I'm using a VPN. I'm guessing it's due to the Opera IP addresses being well known. Is that correct, or is there some way they tell directly?
          .

There is this website ==> https://whatismyipaddress.com

It tells your IP address location according to the HQ of your (notional) ISP, and and one click away from the actual server location and other information about your connection. It does both IP4 and IP6, and appears to give correct information when I use it without the VPN.

With the VPN enabled, it gives me locations that do not correlate with the selected virtual location.

        1. Why is this?

Usually it shows a location Cameroon, and yet Africa is not on the virtual location list.

        1. Why are Africa and Australia not on the list? Is the reason governmental or technical?
          .

        And finally ..

        1. Is there any significant difference in Opera VPN behavior when done in a private window?

@passenger-chi For 2 and 3 the answer is no.

@passenger-chi 1 - Both, I guess. Although Opera's VPN IPS may be known, it's not impossible for a site to know that a VPN is being used.

Generically it displays the URL on a colored background, but some well known sites have some sort of avatar or branding graphic.

              1. Are these stored locally within Opera or do they propagate from the sites (as it might be like favicons)?

              2. Is there some way to install non-standard ones, particularly for sites that do not have them?

              Thank you.

@passenger-chi 2 - Wrong guessing of the location by the sites.

3 - Australia is not a continent and probably the demand for a African location is not that high.

                4 - Nope

@passenger-chi Generally Speed Dials use the image chosen by the user when the page is added.

2 - As said several times, it's not possible to use custom images.

@leocg I'm no Opera expert but I do know the continents, one of the seven being Australia.

@pleaseoperaworkforme Australia is a country, which is part of the continent of Oceania.

                        @leocg

This one I really would like to know and I'm sure has an exact and uncontroversial answer.

                        When adding new search engines:

                        • What does "use post" mean?

                        Thank you.

@passenger-chi As far as I know, it's a method of sending data to pages. You will only check that option when the search engine uses Post method instead of Get one.
