Okay, just another thing on this topic:

Maybe we can start from having more icons to choose?
There is a "food" and a "plane" icon, yeah - nice. But maybe I'm a music producer and need to have a "music" icon? What with people who are doing different stuff?

From today's Opera Developer 73 release changelog:

DNA-88682 Increase the number of allowed workspaces to the number of available icons

This is so great! Thanks Opera. you're the best browser I have ever used! Off: One thing missing is the translation of the site. If Opera has it, I would never use Google Chrome or Edge to translate sites.

With the developer version 74, I was able to create 24 workspace, as many as the number of predefined icons. Promising.

@roti-0 Sorry to revivify this old thread, but I'm looking to create more than 5 workspaces with Developer v.74 -- When I click the "add more" workspaces button in the Sidebar setup, it just force-renames one of the existing 5 that I already have. Nothing I can find or do will create more than 5 Workspace tabs. Does anyone know the exact procedure whereby one creates Workspaces #6-24? Any help would be highly regarded! :^)

@jhjones This fix has even already made it to the regular public branch, I've been rocking 7 workspaces for a few weeks now. (Thanks devs!)

Yeah, same problem here. I'm on Opera 77, and when I try to create another workspace, it just rename one of the five workspaces.

@dante003 Is there any update about getting this in Opera GX? I'm stuck at 9 workspaces, and having max workspaces would be quite helpful in many circumstances.

@jacesvg Hi! I had the same issue. I just opened the tab manager, disable tabs, reenable tabs and after it let me create new tabs. Seemed something related to old config. Im using Opera GX but i think is the same code base. Hope to be useful

I'm on Opera GX 85, but still limited to 5 workspaces. Trying to add more just renames one of the existing ones, as reported by @pumkin54 and @dante003.

@antiqueantelope Just tested in LVL3 (core: 85.0.4341.72), I was able to create 6 workspaces.

@sgunhouse I went digging deeper in the options menu to try to find a way to check/restore functionality without re-installing or clearing profile data.

Somehow, turning on the "background music" feature, seemingly completely unrelated, has fixed this for me. Not sure if toggling this also checks/updates some other stuff in the code, but others still stuck on 5 workspaces may try this.
