Changing default search engine to Google.co.uk

@pcutland I have got round the problem for now by deleting the search box on the speed dial and just having a normal shortcut to Google UK.
But I don't like work rounds and want it to do what it is supposed to do. Of course if I try to search from the address bar I still get Google.com. I can't believe that everyone has this problem, so ther must be a solution somewhere.

@PeterLanky I agree, I do not like work arounds. Currently my solution is to uninstall version 68 which is the faulty one, and to use version 67 which works correctly. I have had to stop the auto update which works most of the time b7ut it still tries to update. In fact as I write this it asked if I wanted to update.
From what I have found there was a change between versions 67 and 68 that stopped the location from working correctly.
Hopefully someone in Opera will see this and rectify it.

Just adding my voice to this matter as I have been Googling(.com) as to why I can't have google.co.uk as my default search engine.
Simple things like shopping where I want to limit my search results to UK sites only are now defunct. I don't want international results forced on me.
This is a massive oversight by the developers. -

Yes, this is a very frustrating change that has come with the latest update. I worry that it portends a future of deference to the USA as we are forced to trade with them and not Europe.

Re: Changing default search engine to Google.co.uk
Still seems to be a problem to activate Google UK from settings .
So create a short cut in favorite bar,not as "google.co.uk" but as "https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=%s"
This works and you need to create a "space" after "s" before entering enquiryRegards

I binned Opera due to this, if they ever fix is issue I might go back to using it.
But my confidence in the Devs is low, it's a bad reflection on Opera. -

Yes I resolved this by having a Google.com Speed Dial and next to it a Google.co.uk Speed Dial. When I really only want UK results, I use the .co.uk.
It's a work around but it is not too onerous.

@clandonman said in Changing default search engine to Google.co.uk:
I use the .co.uk.
Simply I use ".co.uk " and get desired results.

Having used Opera for decades(or so it seems). It is with regret that I am leaving,
The reason is that I cannot get the Default search engine of my choice to open automatically not use a short cut. Google.com is OK for finding how many beans make five but having to keep changing when I want to price/order something in the UK not at Walmart or where ever in the US.
Please correct this. -

Does anyone know where the values are held in Opera to change any reference to Google.com to Google.co.uk? Perhaps in registry or a file within the Opera installation directory?

C:\Users\%appdata%\Local\Programs\Opera\98.0.4759.6\resources
Open and edit in a text file application: default_partner_content.json
Search and replace any instance of google_com with google_uk. The search and replace any instance of google.com with google.co.uk.
Needs work as Opera doesn't open afterwards (.pak file is corrupted).

@wizjay If you look at the top of the file, you'll see a key. Opera protects the file from being changed.

@burnout426 Given the fact that this problem is ongoing, it's pretty frustrating that this has been encrypted. Is there a work around otr, as in my previous question, is there a hack to get google.co.uk instead of google.com as the default search?

Possible work around if you are logged into Google:
Click on the gear for settings to the top right of the google search page.
"See all search settings"
Scroll down to "Region settings" and pick "United Kingdom".
The results do appear to be from the UK.
