Check this out. There will be show more button. Quite more acceptable...

      Opera Developer v71.0.3763.0
You have to enable #search-in-closed-tabs-show-more in flags.

What was their problem with the drop-down "recently closed" tabs? Why they had to change it to this full-window thing? I never used the search for open tabs function, not once, but I use the recently closed constantly and I think it was pretty good as it was, just click on the droppdown and you barely have to move your mouse. Now it does this whole darkening the background animation and all, and it's just irritating. Why do they have to overcomlicate everything?

I never thought this thread would find so many people that miss this feature. Let's hope our opinions are heard by the people making the decisions, although we all know the chances are pretty slim.

Anyway, what people seem to forget when saying "why do you even need to have many tabs" is
            a) we might not have them all open, but we go through a lot of them. My personal work is somewhat related to research and I go though many web pages and I do need to go back to a closed one, or check which one I closed and so on. I think what we initially had was a very solid feature with a very normal and relatable use case to it. In my view, it should not have been removed, but, alas, it has.
            b) honestly, I find it quite arrogant that people tell others that "the feature had no use and it's right that they removed it". It is obviously irrational, since it did in fact have use, as proven by the number of people complaining about its removal.

I am sad that opera had made these decisions, I can't demand an explanation from them, but as a software developer, they could have at least told us in a sentence or two how the workflow should now be, or of they have an alternative in the making and we need to wait.

Nothing that I could at to this, but only second it a countless number of times. I simply see not reason why such a useful feature could be taken off, unless it's some sort of a social experiment.

@rocketank First of all, I don't have this flag in my version of Opera. Second, what was the need to take out so a useful feature and then substitute it with a crippled version of it?

@superduper No need at all. People do stupid things all the time. Other people come later and try to fix these things.

I am low vision and need it right there so I can compare. Please make this an option. All the moving my eyes around the screen, then clicking more than once is far too difficult. I'm begging you. This is the best browser for my vision problems.

I used a hack to get it back the last time you got rid of this, but I don't see a hack this time.

If you knew how many people hate you for removing search-in-open-tabs. (I use https://translate.google.com because you don't seem to read the Russian forum thread at all). I had to install Opera_69.0.3686.95, if the updates do not return search-in-open-tabs, I will look for another browser, as I heard, many are thinking about it.

I 5 year used a function the «Recently closed tabs», and you destroyed it in a flash, it became very uncomfortably without her and your magnifying glass is not needed, you cannot turn it off.
I will remain on Opera 69.0.3686.95,

After the update, the "recently closed" icon disappeared, a "search in open" magnifying glass appeared instead of it, a maximum of 3 last closed tabs. Why change something that works great? opera: // flags / # search-in-open-tabs
Switch "Default (E)" to "Disablet". Now it doesn't work.

I can't write very clearly because I don't know English and I use https://translate.google.com/. Developers read not only forums in English, look into others too.

My post was not about about what Opera version this flag is in, but about its not being in my version of Opera.

The flag is now gone, i hate it so much....
Why would you remove such a great working feature and not even give an option to retain it....

For a browser that is less well known struggling to gain share, it's appalling that a well-loved feature is simply ripped out. Recently closed tabs is my primary tool. I open a lot of tabs and close a lot, then realize I needed one of the closed. Happens often. Opera doesn't care about me, I don't care about it. I'm going to disable updates for now and prepare to switch to Firefox as my goto. #sad

Tried Vivaldi for a couple of days... Interesting. Nothing is perfect of course, but still the train of thought is clearly what we came to love opera for. A weird quirk is that Vivaldi registers the "speed dial" even in the recently closed menu, but otherwise it's just like the thing opera now-used to have (for obvious reasons 🙂 ).
Looked at the browser usage statistics and I wonder why opera does things that drive away what already is a pretty small portion of the "market".

I was also wondering that ... Opera little by little has stopped being something different, designed more for the user, to be more of the same.
                                            I will continue with Vivaldi.
It is more like the real Opera when we all start to love it.
