Did you make sure Chrome and IE were closed before you opened up Opera and tried to import?
If you have to, in Chrome, goto
chrome://settings/passwords
, click the kebab menu (3 vertical dots) to the right of "Saved Passwords" and export your passwords to CSV file. Then, in Opera, goto the same spot and import the csv file. -

I have the same issue: Passwords do not import from Chrome. I do not understand what you mean by "go to the same spot" What "spot"? And how do you import a CSV file into Opera? Where in settings is the "Import CSV file into Passwords" command?

In my version of Opera the password option is only to EXPORT passwords. There is no import option.
The inability to import passwords and log-ons from Chrome is a major impediment to switching my default browser from Chrome to Opera.

@sanguinellc That's why I said used to be, Chromium removed the flag. However the command line should work.

Did you close Opera first? If Opera is already open, the command won't help.

Goto the URL
opera://about
and take note of the "install" path. -
Close Opera.
-
Open the Windows Task Manager and make sure there are really no Opera processes running. If there are, end task on them.
-
Close the browser you want to import from. Confirm it's closed in the task manager.
-
Open up a command prompt (Windows Key + r, type
cmd
and press enter) and type this command and press enter:"C:\Program Files\Opera\launcher.exe" --enable-features=PasswordImport
(replace
C:\Program Files\Opera
with the install path you saw inopera://about
.- When Opera starts up, goto the URL
opera://settings/importData
, pick the browser you want to import from, uncheck everything but "saved passwords", and click "import".
If the import fails and there are really passwords stored in the source browser, try disconnecting from the net before opening Opera with the command to see if it makes a difference. Importing and storing of passwords might fail if your connection is marked as public instead of private in Windows.
Now, if you want, you can do the following to import from Chrome instead of the previous way.
-
In Chrome, goto the URL
chrome://settings/passwords
. -
To the right of "Saved passwords" will be a kebab menu (3 vertical dots). Click the dots and choose to export your passwords. They'll be exported to a csv file.
-
Open Opera the same way mentioned earlier. (As in, make sure Opera is really closed and launch it in a command prompt with the command mentioned earlier.)
-
Goto the URL
opera://settings/passwords
. -
To the right of "Saved passwords", will be a kebab menu (3 vertical dots). Click the dots and choose to import passwords from the csv file you previously exported.
Then, they should show up in
opera://settings/passwords
.One you're d one importing, you can close Opera, close the command prompt and open Opera the normal way from its icon/shortcut.

Chromium removed the flag.
Chromium developers have already returned the password import flag. Now in the 80th, 81st, 82nd Chromium, the flag
chrome://flags/#PasswordImport
is again available. In Opera 67, 68, this flag also works. -

Thanks for the detailed instructions. Opera still would not import automatically but I was able to export a Chrome .csv file to a folder and use the newly present "import" option in Opera to import the csv file successfully.
It is unfortunate that Opera has not incorporated a simpler method. -

Are you saying that the import wizard at
opera://settings/importData
failed to import from Chrome? If so, I'm not sure why it didn't work.Edit: Unfortunately,
opera://settings/importData
is failing to import from Chrome for me too (on Win10). Tried in Opera Developer too. Same result. Chrome and all its processes are closed. Must be broken. -

Tested in Opera 65 and tested in Vivaldi (both with importing enabled) and the same. I'm guessing that something changed in Chrome/Chromium with the storage of passwords that breaks importing.
