I think it would be better for Opera to support multiple user profiles as nicely as Chrome does.

The purpose of workspaces is to keep "categories of tabs" within the same profile.
The purpose of user profiles would be to allow different logins/history/favorites/etc... in order to easily separate home from work. Which is also immensely useful for web development in Chrome.

Opera is based on Chromium and Chromium doesn't have support for containers. So this is not an easy thing to do. Chromium has support for multiple profiles, but having each workspace use a separate profile and being able to switch between them all via workspaces, is likely very difficult to do for Opera. Chromium has private windows, but all private windows share the same session, so that's not really a good foundation to build upon either.

It still might be possible, and it'd be great to have, but I think it'd be really difficult to implement. I would rather have each private window have its own session instead them all sharing the same.

In chromium, so also in opera, there is something called webview. Webview tag has a partition setting which allows to use different storage, e.g. different storage means different cookies. So technically there is a code that supports some form of separating page contexts. Though I am still rising question: should browser be in the business of allowing multing login? I am not do sure, it should.

Depends on how you define workspaces, to me it would make sense to have each workspace work as a "independent profile" When moving tabs to different workspace you would use the login details of the new workspace.

Yes it's all about users definitions and use cases.
But I think workspaces (as defined as "tabs folders inside a profile") and profiles (as defined as "separate sessions, bookmarks, history...") should be kept as separate independant features because they meet different needs.

@rafalspuka I'd really love this function, this may allow me to use multiple MS Azure accounts in the same time without using multiple browsers!

Hi! I use incognito because I have multiple user accounts on the same websites (in my case 2 different stores on an e-commerce marketplace like Amazon)

And I cannot really login to Shop A on workplace 1 and Shop B on workplace 2,
I need to login to the same ones because despite the workspace changes the website treats is as a single browser, when I Incognito I can log into the second account without having to log out of the first account. (Hope I am making sense here!) - So I was thinking that it would be good if:

                  1. We could have workspaces which break continuity and don't login to the same accounts that other workspaces are logged in as
                  2. Have an incognito mode so there's no need to really open incongito on a separate window.

No. For me workspaces is good. One session with the division of tabs into several views (workspaces). But yes, I would like to have access to different sessions in one Opera installation. Only in a different form. Simply (on the toolbar?) There would be a switch to operate the profiles. Each profile would have separate extensions, bookmarks, cookies, etc.
Only it's best to use multiple profiles at once (each in a separate Opera window). And additionally there could be a "guest" profile, temporary, which would not remember bookmarks / cookies / etc. after leaving him. According to me, Opera profiles make sense only in this form and I will vote 100% for such a proposal.

My proposals for changes in Opera (Google Document).

The implementation of containers/sandboxes currently found in Firefox Dev Edition is great. But I also love workspaces as implemented by Opera. They are really quite different things, but it would be nice to bring them together in this sort of way:

                            • Allow creating a workspace that is simply an organizational device (what we have already, with Opera workspaces).
                            • Allow the above, but sandboxed.
                            • Make it a little easier to right-click and create new workspaces of either type 'on the fly'.

I would love for this to be an option with workspaces. It is very useful for separating work/personal accounts and multiple individual accounts on the same website without having to maintain a completely separate profile with separate settings and extensions (which is more hassle than it's worth). For reference, see the Multi-Account Containers feature on Firefox.

@jojo0587 said in Workspaces as separate sessions:

I'm sure if this was implemented it would be an option, not forced upon you. Please don't dismiss features just because you don't see the use for them. Profiles are not the same thing, and you can see this right now in Firefox where a similar option - Multi-Account Containers - is available.

Workspace Isolation - For different user account sign-in on same webpage.

I love workspaces but find the function extremely limited as no isolation exists between them

ie, I use lot of the same sites privately as I do for work. I can't be signed into the same site with different accounts in different workspaces. So, I'm still forced to open an InPrivate tab to open alternate accounts.

I'd love to have workspaces as completely isolated profiles, to group differents tab I just use different opened windows.

@joaquinxcp No no and no more! Thinks! Each profile has a different:

                                    • bookmarks
                                    • extensions
                                    • settings - all, including sidebar.

So if you assume that each workspace would be a different profile, then:
                                    A. in the workspace-profile #1 You would have access to completely different extensions than on workspace-profile #2 (unless you installed the same on both)
                                    B. In fact, by selecting workspace-profile #1 You could see 3 other workspaces and on workspace-profile #2 you could already see 5 others. Why? Because it comes out by definition. The workspaces settings are part of the opera profile settings.

And if he did, that the workspace would really be different profiles, it would not be included in the settings of any Opera profile:

                                    • in all workspaces You would have to have a visible sidebar and in all of them You would have to have the same workspaces, what if You would like to have a real-profile access to 5 workspaces and in the second one You would not need visibility of the entire sidebar? Then you wouldn't have that freedom.

Yes, I am in favor of adding profiles to Opera but only(!) In the form of a toggle (button) in the toolbar (to the right of the addresses bar). Then:

                                    1. with several profiles, after starting Opera, it would be possible to choose which profile we want to use
                                    2. we would have full freedom to set the sidebar/worpskaces on each real profile
                                    3. We could run different Opera profiles in separate windows

My proposals for changes in Opera (Google Document).

Just created this account to support this thread. This would save me so much time.... let's hope this comes up someday!

To have different logins on different workspaces for me would suffice, as I use my extensions on all my stuff (personal, study, etc.). But downloading them for each workspace would be fine too as it is less tiresome than going to private tabs.

Firstly, I thought it would be separate sessions so that I can use my work accounts within the same browser. But I found that workspaces are useless. Please make it like separate sessions please.

                                          Hi,

It would be very useful to elevate the use of workspaces into independent sessions, where you could for example log in into the same service with different accounts.

This would be extremely useful when dealing with several accounts on a single website (personal/job for example).

I know you could use private tabs to login into other accounts but this would be much more practical.

                                          Thanks.

Google Chrome has this feature we all know, and is perfect. But, Vivaldi also has this feature which looks like it is similar to google chrome, but it is very forceful of sort. Example, in Vivaldi if you open a new window with "Profile 1", it also loads "Profile 2" and all its extensions, opened pages and data.

This is an Important feature and hope Opera will implement it as quickly and as perfect as google has done. And, if the team is already working on it, we would be glad to know that.
