The old directory 'Opera Stable ' and the new directory 'Opera Browser' are listed in the directory path in Windows Explorer.

1. Should the old directory 'Opera Stable' (and all of its contents) be deleted?

2. Can the newly-created directory be renamed 'Opera Stable' or will that bring the problem back?

@sporty78 Opera Stable is the new directory. It was created after you have renamed the old on to Opera Browser

No, you are misunderstanding me.

The 'original' directory was named Opera Stable. This is the directory that I renamed Opera Browser.

However, the path is now showing TWO directories with the SAME contents even though all I did was RENAME the Opera Stable directory.

Are you following me?

@sporty78 Sorry but you are the one not understanding things here.

When you renamed the profile folder to Opera Browser, Opera re-created the profile folder (Opera Stable) and started using it.
And because you are using that new profile, you don't see the problem. This mean that the problem is caused by some setting or extension in the old profile or even because it's broken.

What you can do now is to start from zero with the new profile or you can:

• Delete it
• Rename Opera Browser back to Opera Stable
• Start Opera
• Reset your settings
• Check if the problem remains

I renamed that directory to Opera Browser. As a result, I see Opera Stable and Opera Browser directories.

Which directory should be deleted and which one is the issue-free directory?

@sporty78 Yes, Opera Stable is the current profile directory and, as you said, doesn't seem to have the issue.

So you can keep it.

Do I have all of this information correct:

1. When I renamed the old Opera Stable directory to Opera Browser directory, Opera Browser became the old directory and the Opera Browser directory has the issue so Opera Browser can be deleted.

2. In addition, Opera re-created the new Opera Stable directory, which does not have an issue, so Opera Stable remains.

3. Renaming a directory only changes the name of that directory but another directory is automatically created with the original default name?

@sporty78 1) Just remember that deletingOpera Browser will also delete your data from it, including bookmarks, saved passwords and so on.

The new Opera Stable directory is the only one listed.

Yes, I was aware that the settings from the Opera Browser directory would be lost so I restored them when I re-opened Opera.

I signed into Gmail but there was no pop-up so the issue is finally resolved.

The original Opera Stable (renamed Opera Browser) obviously had the issue which caused the pop-up to be displayed.

Issue resolved.
