@leocg elements are visible only if page was opened using these elements.

For example, I scroll down start page and open a new tab, I don't see previous tab.
But if I scroll down and open some bottom's tile or News's tile (in current tab), when I create a new tab I see how this tab 'jumps' to top.

The same is with folders, I can open a folder with tiles on start page and leave it opened, after I create a new tab I don't see the opened folder.
But If I open some tile from the folder and then create new tab, I see the opened folder for a moment while creating new tab.

@andrew84 These 2 are very different actually. The one on Edge is due to the ntp.msn.com start page. If you remove that from start, you can easily avoid the flash.
With chrome, the wallpaper causes issues. My theme from the web store already has an inbuilt wallpaper, and I don't see any such flash.

@leocg Meaning the white flashes while opening web pages is still present, and the Shared Start Page flag is missing. Basically a dead end.

Indeed, that's why 'shared start page' was implemented in Opera(you can set any wallpaper and no flashes occur when creating tabs).

Correct engine's work is when no flashes occur, doesn't matter with or without wallpaper, it works in FireFox this way and it worked in Opera too some time ago without any flags, until some changes in Chromium.

@andrew84 Probably, but at least there is a way in other browsers to fix it now. If it was introduced as a fix, I think the flag could have stayed for a bit longer, can't use beta now because of that. BTW, the flag causes an increase in startup time of the browser too. I thought my system was fried, but I googled a little, and I saw an article asking people to disable that flag for a much much quicker startup. It's like pick your poison. 😕

@jenabaivab It seems to me that shared start page is for when you open a new tab. And it seems to be working based on what I've read here.

@leocg If they demonstrate a tile opening without the flash, it refers to tiles too. And it worked for me too like on their demo until 67 version if I don't mistake, since the 68 it was broken again.

@leocg it's also working for avoiding white flashes when opening any new webpage from a new tab page. Be it via speed dial or address. This was the primary concern of this thread actually, and this flag, unknowingly so, fixed that. But now it's deprecated in v71.

@jenabaivab So the flashing issue is fixed? If so, then the feature does what it is supposed to do.

By the way, I still see it flashing happening sometimes when opening a new page, specially on a new tab.

@leocg I guess he means that disabling the flag fixed the issue, but I don't known how it's possible that the disabled flag (the flag itself was implemented to fix the issue, by the way) fixed the issue
In my case I don't see any difference how tiles do open, there's a flash anyway with or without the flag, but with the disabled flag there are extra flashes (colorful) when creating new tabs and closing last tab. With disabled flag Opera is unusable for me.

The flashes in opera occur not just when opening a new tab, but when opening a new website as well.

                                hi.
I surf in dark mode by night.
But always i call a new site in a new tab the page gets glary white a short time - and i get blinded... 😞
This happens only on new tabs which are darkened by the startpage.
How can i tell Opera to get black all time?
                                thx

                                          hi.
Perhaps a solution here, because Opera is using the Blink engine from Google's Chrome browser.

@cratte Disabling hardware acceleration may have consequences worse than the white flashing, I guess.
