I am located in Switzerland but do most of my searches in the U.S. However, the google search engine defaults to google.ch. I would like to change it to google.com.
Can this be done?

Hmm ... I know that for many people google.com redirects to their local version - if that is true for you then we can't help you. But if searching in Google.com does stay in the U.S. site then you could edit your location to the U.S. as listed in the FAQ.

Sadly, you can't do it without an extension. I hope we get a update soon to make custom search engine by default.
First install:
https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/install-chrome-extensionsAfter, install this addon: (From the Chrome Webstore)

I've tried many things, but I finally figured it out.
The solution is;
Open this path in File Explorer C:\Users\<username> \AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable
Find this file: Local State
Right-click the file and open it in notepad++ (etc.)Change the 2 fields below. (Enter your country information.)
country":"NL","country_from_server":"NL"
country":"TR","country_from_server":"TR"Clear the following values.
"last_startup_timestamp":"13213137098111886"
"last_startup_timestamp":"""last_verify_time": "13213137703649929"
"last_verify_time": ""Open the browser and search anything in address bar. Allow when Google wants to access your location. (I'm not sure about that. Your choice.)

@mucahidgecimli This worked perfectly! Thank you so much! Installed my Opera while still living in Australia, have been to USA and now in Brazil, and every time I'd make a search it would bring me google.au which would sometimes not have the perfect results for me
