The location of the Opera password file is this path -

      C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Opera Software\Opera Stable\Login Data

Fine - I found the Login Data file with no problems, only to find that instead of a list of readable ID's and passwords I get a page of gobbledegook !

Is there any way of extracting this data in plain English ?

Saved passwords are encrypted, so most probably you will not be able to read the file content.

Thank you loecg. You are my salvation in Opera land.
I will have to make do with "WebBrowserPassView", which pulls all the passwords out in plain English. I can even save them in a file and have done.

@johnbull44 - how does that work?? Why can an outside app do what Opera cannot do? This password exclusivity problem is becoming a deal breaker for me.

Opera can, as long as the file isn't from another computer or OS user.

I never said that Opera could not do it - Opera certainly can -

Menu>Settings>Privacy and Security>Manage Saved Passwords and BINGO !
They are all shown in a list with a search box.

My problem is not to just see them which is routine stuff, but to COPY them onto a Flash Drive for uploading onto a new Windows OS. For this you need WebBrowserPassView or some similar program.

Like I said, the Opera Login Data password file is gobbedegook.
I am forced into a separate upload or reference, since Opera has now stopped the syncing of data on version 36.0.2130.80, the final version for Windows XP.

@leocg Where is it possible in Opera to export passwords? that other option mentioned is from outside Opera, and appears to be some sort of joke programming. No GUI, only command line which is what we did back in 1980.

In passwords manager at Opera's settings page there's an option to export passwords. You need to click on the three dots on the right.

There are no 3 dots on the right with version 36.

@johnbull44 36 doesn't support it. You need a modern version like the current Opera 56 and you need to enable the flag opera://flags/#PasswordExport.

https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/web_browser_password.html works with Opera 36. In options, set "Opera login file" to the "Login Data" file that's in your Opera 36 profile and you're good to go. You can ctrl + s to save. It's a GUI program and easy to use. While it is 3rd-party, Nirsoft is trusted.

Oh, 36. There's no such option in Opera 36.

I have used WebBrowserPassvView and it produces a list of all my passwords, which I have saved on my Flash Drive. It results in a copy of all my passwords but a laborious manual reference. What I need is the routine autofill by the browser.

@johnbull44 I use LastPass for that. But, I'm not sure if the extension works in Opera 36. When using LastPass, you turn off "offer to save passwords" in opera://settings/passwords as LastPass will be handling things instead.

If Opera is allowed to save passwords as well as LastPass, will it work OK ?
