preferences file cannot be read

hi..i keep getting a box whenever i go to any site in opera saying "your preferences fine cannot be read..some features may be unavailable and changes to settings won't be saved" what do i do to stop this..

Also try an Opera reinstall.

Restart Windows too if you haven't.

bolded texti also wrote the same post a few days ago, can't find how to reply to it so am replying here because it told me it was an old post..i have a hp pavilion desk top using windows vista and can't get that box to disappear..it also comes up when using chrome..thanks

Where is Opera installed? This can happen also if you ran Opera as Admin - your preferences get marked as requiring admin access and can't be read without it.
