A send link by email button that works

Hard to believe that Opera still does not have a built-in send page/link by email button and the extension that adds that functionally is unreliable

I agree. But...
If you install this extension, you can install Chrome's Share link via email extension. It's worked fine for me.
Which one isn't working reliably for you? mailto button? Are you wanting it to launch a compose tab/window in an external client or in a webmail page in Opera? If the latter, what webmail service specifically?

I concur. I use this. I also use a Send link by mail bookmarklet that I had in Chrome and dragged/dropped it to the Opera bookmarks bar. Works well for me.
But built-in Send link by email would be nice. I don't understand why most of the desktop browsers shun it tbh.

I understand that this post is quite old, but I wanted to share my Opera extension that does just this - https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/email-this/
Email This lets you send link and complete (ad-free) web pages to your email in one-click.
