    The change log, and the announcement.

    "Today, we’re unveiling the very first of Opera developer from the 53 line.

    News below Speed Dial

    Inaugurating this build is the news feature, which can now be seen directly below the Speed Dial. Upon expressing their consent, users will get access to news chosen based on their personal preferences. In the current build, users from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and USA will be able to play around with the feature. While we continue to work on it, please take a look at the screenshot below, and let us know what you think.

    Other highlights:
    - Fixed for wrong order of opened pages from Speed Dial.
    - [Win] Fixed issue when moving bookmark.
    - [Linux] Fixed crash when saving PDF."

  • O53dev is -as O52beta also- plagued with flashbangs and sluggish tab animation when opening new tabs. O51 on the other hand is behaving flawlessly. W10x64, W7x64

    Mentioning it early so that it doesn't come to beta without a fix like in the case of O52.

  • please support this request:

    this feature is available on chrome from older versions but i request it from opera 43 and older than that and did not see anything.

  • OMG!!!! I fricking HATE the "news for you" on my speed dial page! Please remove it. It reminds me of a sleazy online tabloid. I already have news sources I use regularly and this mess certainly isn't going to be one of them. I don't even use MSN, Yahoo or other news sources like this because of very cluttered webpages.

  • @onthehunt You should be able to disable it in start page settings.

  • @leocg I cannot find any setting that will allow me to disable the news feed on my speed dial page. Please provide steps to do that. Thank you.

  • @l33t4opera as long as this remains optional and can be disabled and the access to personal news in sidebar stays, i think nothing speaks against this. i personally prefer not to have this on my speed dial. i prefer the personal news in the sidebar.

  • @onthehunt Do you have advanced settings enabled?

  • @leocg Yes, advanced settings is checked and these are the start page options:

    Start page
    Hide search box
    Hide Speed Dial
    Hide "Add a site" button
    Show Speed Dial suggestions
    Adjust Speed Dial animations for slower hardware
    Maximum number of columns:

    Please provide instructions how to disable the news posts.

  • @onthehunt You need to open the easy setup dialog to do that.

  • @leocg I did find the setting in easy setup and disabled it. That worked. Thank you.

  • New update - Opera developer 53.0.2885.0 ;-)

    The change log, and the announcement.

  • O53 must be one of the most boring releases.... C'mon...: News? Ok....
    So how does these look:

    • 1 sidebar?
    • web panels?
    • split screen views?
  • @rudrick Although they seem very interesting, I don't see them coming in a near future.

  • Messenger apps already use web panels...

  • Since Opera 53.0.2885.0 developer (also Opera 53.0.2893.0) i get a system message when opening a URL if it comes from an external program (IRC link, help link from LibreOffice, etc.).

    Der vorgegebene Internetnavigator konnte nicht gestartet werden.

    Failed to execute default Web Browser.
    Input/output error

    Site opens, but with the stupid system dialog.

    No dialog with Opera developer 53.0.2880.0, Opera stable, Firefox, Vivaldi
    The dialog only opens if Opera Dev ⋝ 53.0.2885.0 is the default browser.
    command line:
    exo-open URL with dialog (exo-open starts the default browser)
    opera-developer URL without dialog

    OS: Siduction 64bit
    DE: Xfce 4.12

    Can anybody confirm that, or what is the mistake?

  • update-alternatives --display gnome-www-browser
    gnome-www-browser - manual mode
      link best version is /usr/bin/opera-developer
      link currently points to /usr/bin/opera-developer
      link gnome-www-browser is /usr/bin/gnome-www-browser
    update-alternatives --display x-www-browser
    x-www-browser - manual mode
      link best version is /usr/bin/opera-developer
      link currently points to /usr/bin/opera-developer
      link x-www-browser is /usr/bin/x-www-browser

    Workaround for me, i edit the $HOME/.local/share/applications/exo-web-browser.desktop

    [Desktop Entry]
    Exec=x-www-browser %u
    Name=Web Browser
    Comment=Browse the web

    Exec=exo-open --launch WebBrowser %u
