@spotteron said in ECOSIA Search Engine as Default:

We live in times of environment destruction and cliamte change, so the least we can do is to support the ECOSIA search enginge, which plants trees for our search queries. But: the Addon to have ECOSIA as default search is gone from the Opera AddOn section:
      https://addons.opera.com/de/extensions/details/ecosia-the-search-engine-that-plants-trees/

How can we make Ecosia our default search engine again,
or better, when does the addon come back?
      best regards!

        ecosia chrome extension

Thank you so much for this very useful hint; a little drop en plus for the hugely endangered environement

@acidinmyfridge The chrome extension doesn't add Ecosia in the list of default search engine and I can't find an Opera extension either ... What else can we add or change ?

You can't, Opera doesn't allow you to use a custom search engine as the default one. That's why this request was made.

Also adding my voice to let folks know I would like this option as well. Or at least an option to remove the search function from the address bar.

@ludivine as there are no options other than adding ecosia to the search engine list within the browser, the only thing i can suggest is to use this opera add-on which allows you to set a custom new page. Simply put the ecosia url there and whenever you open a new tab, it will open with ecosia.

I know this is not what you really ask for, but atm it's better than nothing i presume.

You think you know, but you have no idea.

We have to change our habits, because opera blocks things a little, but it's not that hard to add a letter and a space before the word or words you're looking for.

                  ctrl+l, selects the address bar
                  s+space+question open result in startpage
                  d+space+question open result in duckduckgo
                  q+space+question open result in qwant

This is what I do to bypass the search engines imposed by Opera, and I can change the engine according to my mood.
It is to be configured yourself, of course

                  🙂

                    1. Go to settings and search for "search engines" / right click the place where website addresses are displayed (search bar) and click edit search engines.
                    2. Under "Other search engines" click add and fill in as follows
                      a) Search engine: Ecosia
                      b) Keyword: e
                      c) URL with %s in place of query: https://www.ecosia.org/search?q=%s
                    3. Go on the search bar and type "e " and then you'll be using Ecosia. Unfortunately, the settings do not allow for it to be truly default although it does get really close.

Here's the same process with StartPage if you would like illustrations: https://support.startpage.com/index.php?/en/Knowledgebase/Article/View/277/13/how-do-i-add-startpage-to-opera-as-a-default-search-engine

@iemf install this opera add-on so you can download chrome extensions, then simply install the ecosia chrome extension

Additionally, you can add ecosia manually to search engines in opera://settings/searchEngines.

Or you use this opera add-on
which allows you to set a custom new page. Simply put ecosia there and whenever you open a new tab, it will open with ecosia.

                        Hi Opera Team,

It won't cost so much effort just to enable Ecosia as a default right? Why don't you do that? Is it that you have a contract with google or what is it about? I will kick opera if you won't fix that until next week... you got me really angry about that!

                        Thanks a lot in advance!
