While Opera's blog post explains why there has been a change in the VPN services, having to go back to aDSL speeds for web browsing is a horrible alternative. The built-in VPN support was my reason for switching to Opera as my default browser. As it is now, I'm using a different browser again when I need a VPN. Is there any official word that the performance degradation is going to be addressed or is this now the way it will be with Opera?

@leocg Thank you for acknowledging that there is a problem. Hopefully you are right and Opera will address and fix the problem; keeping in mind that the VPN is their competitive edge.

not completely accurate, while most of us are frustrated with the vpn opera's main value for me is the fact that opera opens far faster than either firefox or chrome, and the fact that opera doesn't get as bogged down anywhere near as bad as firefox and chrome can.

In the U.S., when I use VPN and pick a site in the Americas and go to YouTube, why am I offered almost 90% Russian YouTube videos?
Is this normal?
Something I should be worried about?
Many thanks.

for me is the fact that opera opens far faster
It doesn't open "far faster" when the VPN is slow; it takes time to validate the VPN tunnel.

One can subscribe to Opera Gold.
Opera Gold refers to a paid upgrade version of an iOS/iPad app in Apple's App Store, offered by OSL Network Services Limited, which operates over Opera's former SurfEasy's VPN service:
This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.
This app is designed for both iPhone and iPad
Seller: OSL Network Services LimitedFrom the business listing of OSL Network Services:
Osl Network Services Limited was set up on Monday the 22nd of February 2016. Their current address is Dublin 2, and the company status is Normal. The company's current directors Petter Lade and Roar Olbergsveen have been the director of 6 other Irish companies between them.
Registered Address:
Fitzwilliam Business Centre,
77 Sir John Rogerson's Quay,
Dublin 2, IrelandIt's unclear (to me) just how the paid app may have been affected, if at all, by Opera's sale of SurfEasy in September 2017.
