[Solved]Google sending old version of its page to Opera

  • As far as I have been able to tell this is a Google problem, because if I mask my user agent to show it as firefox or chrome using an extension Google shows the new UI

I am using Opera 45.0.2552.881 (PGO)
    and user agent is "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/58.0.3029.110 Safari/537.36 OPR/45.0.2552.881"
and using this extension to mask

Also just found out turning on VPN seems to correct this problem

  • Getting this problem as well. Using an extension to change user-agent is working.

  • I found an old post with a temporary solution using this extension

Using the Google Chrome agent displays Google normally without the old ui. Apparently this is an issue on Googles end.

  • Same here. It just started today, but I updated Opera days ago. My google search results page is entirely blank on the right side; compressed fonts, etc. Image:

It's not my connection, and I'm on Win 10.

  • I'm having the same issue at home and at work. My home connection is 100 down 10 up. I'm not having speed issues. I don't run a VPN

  • Same problem here. Do we have a bug report? I've never opened one for Opera before, but I could look into it.

  • Having the same problem as Operauser12356 here.
It started randomly yesterday(May 25th), refreshes would sometimes fix it, now it's just stuck to the old version.

I have latest Opera installed and use 2 extensions: adblock and Gmail notifier.
Running on windows 7 64 bit with latest security updates.
    Tried clearing cookies, didn't work.

Also tested on IE and Chrome, no problem with those 2 browsers.

  • I'm having the same issue, but my view isn't changing randomly, I'm getting google's old UI every time I do a search. and it's driving me crazy, I feel like I'm using Bing or something. This is how I am seeing google search results today in Opera :

I've disabled all extentions and cleared cache and cookies, updated and restarted with no effect.

    Any suggestions?

  • I am experiencing the same issue. I have tried on multiple computers running opera, and they are all showing the same old google page. I think it affects a lot of people.

  • I am having the same issue too, I have cleared my cookies and cache and scanned for viruses. I only have one extension for downloading Youtube videos that I KNOW is not the cause.

  • Hello

I am having the same issue. Google sending to old google search results page format.

First it started intermittently, now it reverts to old google search page all the time.

All solutions above have been tried.

There is a bug in Opera somewhere causing this - Opera Dev Team can you provide solution?

The latest version is running on Windows 7 and it only happened with the update.

  • Same problem, it seems is a Google problem, i fixed it with the extension mentioned above. Hope it fixes completely soon.

  • @operauser12356 Exactly the same thing here. Yesterday it was random, today I noticed it's permanently on the old design. This quick fix I found in google forums or maybe the permanent fix - I get sick to the stomach from the old design. I've added this to my Opera properties i.e. right click Opera icon, choose Properties.

    "C:\Program Files\Opera\launcher.exe" --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/55.0.2883.87 Safari/537.36

The problem is that Google isn't recognizing Opera as the Opera browser, sees it as something else or an unknown browser.

  • I'm having the same problem. It started yesterday or the day before. I had to install a user-agent switching extension and force google to see Opera as Firefox or Chrome and it works fine.

  • I'm having the exact same problem that started 5/25. Opera 45.0.2552.881 (PGO). Windows 10 Pro 64. I don't have Turbo on and I am not using VPN. Extensions: Adblock Plus, Always Smile, Disable HTML5 Autoplay, Download Chrome Extension, Images ON/OFF, PasteItEverywhere, Search the current site.

I've turned off the Adblock Plus, HTML5 Autoplay, and Images ON/OFF, but it doesn't affect what is happening. As others reported, on 5/25, the problem was intermittant. Today, 5/26, it is steady. Google always loads with what looks to be an old version. This is not happening in Chrome and Internet Explorer.

Looking at the page source for the same google search page in Chrome, I see it starts with this:
    <!doctype html><html itemscope="" itemtype="" lang="en"><head><meta content="/images/branding/googleg/1x/googleg_standard_color_128dp.png" itemprop="image">

In Opera, it starts with this:
    <html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">

I've just tried the useragent switch extension others have recommended. It solves the problem. Of course, I shouldn't have to do that, so there is still a problem either with Opera or Google.

  • also before it was random it would switch between old layout and new layout but now it seems stuck on the old layout

Mine seemed to always go to the old layout if I did a search from the url bar, but then if I clicked the "search" button on the results page it would reload to the new layout. Now, no matter what I do or how I get there, it seems to always be stuck on the old layout.

  • Are you all using the latest stable version: 45.0.2552.881?

If you download and run the portable version, does the problem happens?

  • @leocg: Yes:

    Version information

Version: 45.0.2552.881 (PGO) - Opera is up to date
    Update stream: Stable
    System: Windows 10 64-bit (WoW64)
    Browser identification

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/58.0.3029.110 Safari/537.36 OPR/45.0.2552.881

I just installed Opera Portable and yes, the same thing is still happening. I did not perform a restart or cache clear though.

I updated again and its update to date and I am still getting the same issue.

is what it says for me.

I installed that extension that @bebner linked and it solved the problem when I switched it to Firefox on Windows. Have yet to experiment with other user-agents.

  • Also, in what page the issue is happening? It would be
