Why is posting and editing posts on this forum so awkward? It is very tricky to post a list of things readable as a list. If one gets it wrong and tries to redo it, one is accused of spamming after trying to edit it a few times. Editing the same thing multiple times is not spamming!! I have also seen something I have been trying to edit appear as several posts. Why is that? What is the point of taking a list and cramming it all into a paragraph anyway?

It's because there is a limit of posts per minute and editing a post seems to count for that limit.

Yes, unfortunately, we've been hit by spam waves. And one of possible means applied by spammers to avoid immediate detection is posting something innocent then editing it with crap.

Well, you try the "preview" function. At least for comments it works just fine.
I have also seen something I have been trying to edit appear as several posts. Why is that?
Two usually. With the rest of comments "vanished".
It's a known bug. It's been reported; I guess it's been considered minor, but it is confusing for new users. What is the point of taking a list and cramming it all into a paragraph anyway?
These forums' markup is similar to Wiki's.
To create a new paragraph, you make it doubleEnter
. To just break a line without creating a new paragraph (in the HTML sense) you end the line with two spaces then oneEnter
.Well, Markdown supports two types of lists - numeric and dotted.
To create a numeric one, you use digits (any digits) closed with a dot/full stop, then a space; no need to double-Enter between lines.
Important, you should most probably make a paragraph break before and after the list.
Ah! to create a dotted list, use single asterisks with a space after them. No need to doubleEnter
between lines either.Enjoy!

Hijacking!
Leo, people posting in other languages might do so because there's no apparent distinction between the two globe icons: they both look the same and both mean changing languages, as they do. So some people click on the UI language icon, see their language and think they're in their language section which they're not.
So we need what?
Either the forum guys change the icons a way they differ more distinctively saying which is which and what for. Or we do so ourselves, meaning a screenshot or two with an explanation in a FAQ thread.
Or both of the above. Or site guys putting a FAQ orhelp
thingy somewhere into the "Help" section. Better both. Because where do people go when having a problem? Perhaps they might take a glance at some ToSes but... More or less that's it -- they take a glance or not, then register, then go posting. In whichever order that is... -

Kinda again!
Or should we start a new thread about this Helling Machine???
Three posts of mine have been helled today. For mow-duration.
I wouldn't mind, but I've got an impression that the HM (not Her Majesty!) started Helling certain smilies here. Perhaps it'ssherlock
(let's see now...)...No?
Anyway, it hells apparently rather usual stuff. It used to "no reason" dislike my weather reports, but now it seems to have taken an essential grudge against me. O.O At least so it might seem*:)* -

Heh. I just got one held as well with only a few words and a smiley consisting of a semicolon and right half paren. It will probably pop up here in a few hours.

Maybe.
Then again. The HM seems to be in a good mood today - still only principal about my weather talk (what's wrong with my weather talk? ).

... The HM seems to be in a good mood today ...
It seems to come and go. The past week or so, it's been pretty loose. Back around the 7th of this month, it was beyond tight. I'd comment here about the probable gender of the HM, but then I'd be in deeper doo-doo than I occasionally fall into.
