Imagine that you have started to write a topic (or comment) and before publishing it you realize that it needs some polishing but you don't have the time to do it.
In this case you can save the draft and then edit and publish it later.

I just don't know if this feature is really working as i've never tested it.

Works fine ... if you save a draft (either of a comment or of a topic) the top line of any topic list page (where it says "All Discussions My Discussions") will indicate you have drafts also. Standard behavior in Vanilla-based forums.

Is there easier way to add pictures in the forum?

Not yet - unless someone has a markdown helper extension of some sort.
