I believe the problem is caused by Avast's SecureLine VPN component. I did the following and now Opera's VPN works:
- Open Avast from the system tray.
- Click on the Settings cog in the top right-hand corner.
- Select Tools from the menu on the left.
- Disable SecureLine VPN.
- Reboot.

Had the same problem. When you upgrade you have to reactivate VPN in settings.

The main reason I started using Opera again was for the VPN. It has been broken since the last update, a few weeks ago. I might as well go back to Chrome...

Is there any understanding of why VPN might be dropping my connection about every 10 minutes today?
Using on my ipad air II -- version 1.1.2
