Hi, this is a question to the mods and or opera software employees.

When Opera does auto updates - is it done from Opera Software servers OR 3rd party servers?

      Thanks.

Hi leocg, thanks for the prompt & apt response.

I'm just concerned about the security of the files downloaded by the opera's auto update as:

          1. it can't be deactivated like previous versions.
          2. I've known opera.com's download page to hand off download requests to 3rd party hosts (including edu's etc.) - hosts of which I know nothing of, nor how clean these 3rd party systems may or may not be.

Are there any opera employees that can give a more definitive answer?

          Thanks! 🙂

I would trust .edu servers (universities and colleges) more than some .com's ... but I can't say they don't farm it out to servers that are hopefully more local to you.

It can but it's not that easy.

Well, in theory we don't know anything about any host unless we run it.

Those hosts are used to avoid Opera Software's servers to face issues because of heavy traffic and also to allow the user to download from a nearest location, what brings better download speed. And they are supposed to be clean.

Afaik autoupdate does not use third part hosts/servers.
