Hi soukyuu, this is not something the browser decides - it's Google/YouTube that decides who gets served what, and indeed they serve Opera Flash videos by default, while serving HTML5 videos to Chrome by default. As @gustavwiz said you should be able to change your settings at https://www.youtube.com/html5 .

Opera seems to prefer using adobe flash player on youtube for me. If I disable it via about://plugins, youtube loads the HTML5 player. I would like opera to behave like chromium and prefer HTML5 over flash - mostly because flash doesn't offer the 60fps option. Is there a way to do that? I can't seem to see any related setting on youtube itself.

For me (Opera 31 on Ubuntu Trusty 32 bits) it's the opposite, it only wants HTML5 and won't play Flash.

I would like to fully agree, but it's only half of it: every time someone on a forum post a DailyMotion link (the same with Vimeo), I can just say “Oh, no…” or else open Firefox. That's also an issue with audio file players on websites (including my own forum).

Except that, I agree HTML5 video should be better. For HTML5 audio players, I will have a look at it (I don't enjoy using video for audio only).

Is Flash working at all? Have you installed flash? If so, how have you installed it?

Yes, Flash is installed in the environment, as can be witnessed using Opera Presto and Firefox. I installed it using Ubuntu's package manager.

By default Youtube will serve Opera (at least from 30) with the html5 player.

Some people may be getting the flash player because of the fix for an issue in Opera Stable.

That explains it. You should have the package pepperflashplugin-nonfree in order to get flash working in Opera.

Okay… thanks. Now DailyMotion works. I did not knew about PepperFlash.

Also, I checked Opera Blink still prefers HTML5 video for YouTube (good point, it did not break anything standard).
