When I update Java, a Notice comes up saying Java is no longer supported on Chrome?-
- Is it also Not supported on Chrome based... Opera?
a. If so should I remove it, and stop updating to latest Java version?

Opera is Chromium based not Chrome. It seems Google doesn't want to see Flash and Java on Chrome anymore and I find it good.
Both flash and java have security vulnerabilities. If you are asking this question you most probably don't use Java so I recommend you to remove it.
If you want to keep Flash and Java I highly recommend keeping both side applications up to date. They continuously fix vulnerabilities. -

I downloaded Opera so I could play java games on pogo.com. Does this chromium business mean Opera will no longer be an option for java games? Basically, did I waste a lot of time and energy for nothing?

I Googled Java/Flash...- Chrome (Opera) disables them by default, but allows you to re-enable them.
Here's How-
Type opera:plugins in the address bar, and click on the 1st pop-up.
Then you can Enable or Disable them...Note!- Most of the Java security vulnerabilities are in the Toolkit!~ Toolkit is not Necessary for Java to run, so Disable this part! Then enable the other Java part if you want to...
Do the same with Flash (I use it, so I Enable it)...Both Flash, and Java update frequently to plug vulnerabilities, so keep them both Current (usually a few days After Win Updates)!

Here's How-
Type opera:plugins in the address bar, and click on the 1st pop-up.
Then you can Enable or Disable them...Hmm, in Opera 32.0.1948.69 I went to opera:plugins, and simply got a list of 12 plugins, each one with a Disable button, meaning they're all enabled; the Disabled list is empty. WRT Java, it lists Java Version 6.0.350.10, "Next Generation Java Plug-in 1.6.0_35 for Mozilla browsers."

You have to disable the disable NPAPI flag in opera://flags
However, in O34, my java stopped working even with the flags and plugins properly set; I don't know if that's a bug or deliberate. You may want to keep O32 & 33 on hand or switch to Firefox, which will support Java until Dec 2016.
re: Java/Flash vulnerabilities. The purpose of a browser is to display content first, safely second; browsers are not security products.
