Title speaks for itself. How do i remove the Recommendations tab?
Here's a picture of the recommendation tab under the address line. http://i.imgur.com/LjoPc9M.png
Didn't have the tab before, reinstalled Opera today and now the tab pisses me off.
Thanks in advance! -

Do you mean how do I remove all the scummy quick links to betting sites that are appearing on my quick start page? if so, please someone tell me how to do it. Before the last update it was easy and now it's impossible. There's all sorts of disgusting stuff -- like skybet and ladbrokes -- I feel like quitting Opera rather than be forced to see them twice a day.
Before the last update life was easy I just clicked the little x and away they all went. Now i get a message "your preferences cannot be read" no link to "preferences" in Help and all this revolting stuff that won't go away.
I re-installed opera -- no difference. Maybe I need to delete it for a while.

@mirandadealler
I reuploaded the screenshot, so people who stumble across this thread would have easier understanding of my problem.
As for your problem - i haven't encountered it yet. No idea how to fix it, sorry. -

It's unrelated to this topic, please open a new one or find one ab out the same subject.

Not unrelated. mirandadealler was asking for clarification which nochancesurvival gave. I thought that was what nochancesurvival was describing as well. If this is not a speed dial issue then I am still not sure what nochancesurvival is referring to. I am unfamiliar with this recommendations tab.
Can you link to the thread you are referring to leocg?

Hi, I am referring to the Start Page or Speed Dial. I cannot edit it by following the instructions in help. My changes are not saved. The original post about recommendations tab looks very like my Speed Dial page apart from being set out in a line. My Speed Dial is lines of four but it can have additions and thus change shape. Otherwise it looks like the same thing.
I think my problem from the previous update is that Opera will not save what it calls "my preferences". I cannot find a reference to preferences in Help. What is in help does not help me modify my Speed Dial

Hi @mirandadealler, go to
opera://flags/#site-tiles
, select "Disabled" from the drop-down, and restart the Opera. -

I found the site which seems to be called Experiments (?). It showed me a particular "site tiles" box which was marked Disabled (by default). I changed it to Default and restarted Opera but everything was the same. I deleted the unwanted bits of the Start Menu and restarted it again and they still came back. thank you for taking an intelligent interest in my problem.

I meant I deleted the unwanted bits of speed dial not the unwanted bits of the Start Menu. Sorry

You are using a A/B test build. Try downloading the latest build and see if changes something.

No, sadly, it doesn't.
Whenever I open Opera now it shows me a little message "your preferences cannot be read and so changes to settings won't be saved". I can't find preferences in the Help menu so I don't know what they are or how to put them right. Everything else seems unchanged except this message and the Speed Dial.
I am quite a long term user of Opera but nothing special. I would never opt to use a test build.

It's not exactly something that you opt, it's a a/b test build send by the server to some people.
Whenever I open Opera now it shows me a little message "your preferences cannot be read and so changes to settings won't be saved".
It means that Opera can't read/write in the profile folder or in the preferences file.

think it must have been a mistake to send it to me. Is there some way to undo the A/B update?

how do I do that?
I found my preferences file which hasn't been accessed since August 17th 17.07pm presumably that's when the Opera update was unable to read it.

I found about Opera but not OMenu. I'm using 31.0.1889.174. Would there be any useful information on this page?
If I deleted and re-installed Opera might it be cured? and would I be able to retrieve my bookmarks or would they be lost?
thanks
Sally

thank you -- you are being very patient with me.
I found the profile folder and opened it. I found the preferences file. I could not see how to re-name them.
Are you thinking that I will rename it and then have two copies, one the original and one my renamed copy which I can then check?
